Intro
The Unified Comms Alliance (UCA) Lync® Client is a UC software application which seamlessly integrates in the Microsoft Lync & Office suite and is interoperable with Avaya Aura ACE and Avaya IP Office (SIP only).
Major Avaya ACE features are implemented within this plug-in to Lync. It enables CTI (controlling your hard phone ie. 96xx, including Avaya softclients) functionality or a full featured VoIP softphone with one click.
For IP Office the client works in softphone mode only as a SIP endpoint.
Some of the features• Seamless integration in Lync/Office• Same Lync “look and feel”• Voice and HD video enables Lync (base license
only required• Softphone or hard phone (CTI) mode• Full presence synchronisation in Lync/Avaya• Access to Active Directory and LDAP directories• Click to Call• Instant audio/video conferences with up to 16/8
participants without the need for additional server
• No Enterprise or Plus CAL required• Supporting Windows7 & 8 32 & 64 Bit

Lync - FAQ
• Most customers have “free IM&P from Microsoft this comes with the “Standard” CAL (client access lic), this is why lots of customers think Lync is “free”
• Lync Enterprise Voice requires “Enterprise and Plus CAL’s costing US$123 each ie. US$248
• The UCA Client DOES NOT require the additional CAL’s to function, ie the customer integrating Avaya and Lync saves US248 per user
• Avaya’s client “turns off” some native Lync features tying the customer to Avaya’s own video and conferencing products, the UCA Client DOES NOT do this
• Avaya has it’s own free client that requires Aura 6.2
• Avaya client “turns off” key Lync features that customers want, forcing either to buy AAC8 for conferencing, and Scopia for video. Most often at this stage the customer decides to “rip & replace” the entire Avaya estate to go “full” Lync
