Audience: JCHS teachers Teacher(s): Patrice O. Toulson
Content Topic: Moodles, a Web 2.o tool
Summary of Staff Development: This staff development will consist of one lesson. The
teachers will be introduced to Moodle and will learn how to use it in their classrooms.Moodle is a free open source course management system known as Learning
Management System (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a tool for
creating great websites for students. Moodle can be used no matter how small or largeyour school is. Some teachers use it to build richly collaborative communities of learning
around their subject matter. Others use it to deliver content to students and assess
learning using assignments or quizzes. You can use Moodle for differentiation among
your students. It is also a great tool that will get the students familiar with long distancelearning such as what we have used with Georgia On My Line. Moodle is a very easy
instructional tool to learn to use.
Learner Analysis: These lessons will be taught to a few teachers at Jefferson CountyHigh School. I wanted to determine how many of the teachers are aware of Moodle or if
anyone of them had used it in any capacity. I sent each teacher a survey to determine thisinformation. Three teachers completed the survey. One teacher had never heard of
Moodle. The other two had heard of it and used it basically for class resources in order to
post readings on websites for students. They expressed that they would like to learn more
about Moodle.
