Well goodness me, who can believe it is September already? I am

not going to mention the “C” word but it won’t be long before cards are appearing in the shops and we are all panicking about being ready for the big day, but enough about that. We have lots of lovely things to look forward to before then. Personally, I am still eagerly awaiting my summer holiday – not long now and I shall be departing on a cruise with a very good friend and hoping to return with a beautiful tan just in time for the Annual Council Meeting at The Regal Theatre in Redruth.

I am looking forward to welcoming members to our new location – this will be an exciting opportunity for us to try something new. We have all become so used to the Hall for Cornwall that it has been like visiting an old friend, and we are a little sad that we are not able to continue to meet there for now. But think of our change of venue as a chance to try something new. We shall all be in the same boat of not knowing exactly what is where, but the staff at The Regal are being so helpful that I am confident we shall manage admirably and enjoy another good Annual Meeting. Remember - it is more about the people and friends involved than the place where we gather.

Whilst I am reflecting on our forthcoming Council Meeting, I would like to solicit your help. At our Council Meetings and Spring Countdowns, we try hard to find interesting speakers to cccome

along and entertain you during the afternoon. It is obviously not always easy to please all the audience, but we do our best. If you have ideas for someone you think would make a good speaker for one of our meetings, keeping in mind that next year is our Centenary, please let us have your suggestions. E-mail Barbara in the office (details here in County News) or pick up the phone and give her your ideas. You never know - you could be responsible for us having a very successful afternoon guest speaker!

So, what have we to look forward to in the forthcoming months? Look out for news of our Bollywood event towards the end of October when Chy Noweth an Conteth will be transformed into a Bollywood film set where we will all be the players, complete with a full Indian menu ideally pitched to suit all tastes, and entertainment and lots of fun to be had. We all enjoy meeting friends over a nice meal so make sure you don’t miss the annual Christmas get-togethers, this year at either Budock Vean at Mawnan Smith in the west or The Falcon Hotel at Bude in the east, I look forward to meeting many of you at either event. Then close on the heels of the Christmas dinners we shall be gathering at St Petroc’s Church in Bodmin for a Christmas Carol Service being held amidst the Christmas Tree Festival, if anyone is interested in being one of the readers, please let me know.

So that’s me for this month, I hope you are all enjoying getting back into WI life after the summer break. There are lots of good things to come, so keep an eye on County News to make sure you don’t miss any goodies offered by our hardworking sub-committees.

My best wishes to you,

Chairman Margaret

AN OPPORTUNITY HAS ARISEN FOR THE POSITION OF FEDERATION TREASURERDo you fancy a varied and interesting role at the heart of the Federation? There will be a vacancy on the Board of Trustees from October 2018. You do not necessarily need any Treasurer experience; more important is an interest in figures, enthusiasm for the role and a desire to join a friendly, lively and hard-working Federation team. Help and support will be on hand from day one from the office staff, our Accounts Manager, the Board of Trustees and our current Treasurer. We are all volunteers so sorry, no salary! However, you will be able to claim travel expenses and other entitled out-of-pocket expenses. If you’d like to find out more about this opportunity or just for a general chat, please contact Margaret Johnson, Federation Chairman

TREASURER’S CORNERAre you confused by what’s meant by collecting receipts and payments “as agent”. These are simply receipts and payments that are taken “on behalf of” either CFWI or NFWI. Reminder – the only transactions that should be treated “as agent” are the CFWI/NFWI element of subscriptions, Federation events and CFWI/NFWI raffle tickets. Your WI receives money on behalf of CFWI/NFWI and that same amount is sent to CFWI/NFWI thus leaving a net zero balance.

POOLING OF FARES CORRECTIONPlease note that there was an error on the Pooling of Fares form sent out with your Annual Council Meeting delegates’ pack. The form states that mileage will be reimbursed at the rate of 15p per mile, but the correct figure is 20p per mile.

NOMINATE AN NFWI TRUSTEE!Did you know that all WIs are eligible to nominate candidates for the NFWI Board of Trustees? Is there someone you think would make a fantastic NFWI Trustee? If so, send your nomination to NFWI using the form your WI Secretary received in her June mailing. Nominations must arrive no later than 26th October 2018, and nominees must have served on the CFWI Board for a minimum of two years.

BARBARA CORBETT AT CORNWALL AIR AMBULANCE We’d like to congratulate former CFWI Chairman Barbara Corbett, who has now joined the Appeal Board of the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

The Appeal Board are endeavouring to help raise £2.5 million, which will be put towards a new AW169 next generation helicopter which will be equipped with all the latest technological features, making it safer and quicker for patients and the crew that care for them en route – an emergency department in the back of the helicopter! The Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust is a local charity and one our members can support. If you haven’t already, why not select Cornwall Air Ambulance as your WI’s charity of the year?

If you’d like, you can book a special personally-guided group tour of the Air Ambulance’s airbase in Newquay. You will have a chance to meet the crew, find out more about the charity, see behind the scenes and enjoy some tea and cake. Please do not hesitate to contact Barbara and she will organise a tailored package to suit your WI.
