Group Leader Co-ordinator.

“The present co-ordinator is staying for this academic year – which will be her third in this post - but we need someone who would be interested in taking over next year. The months from January to June - the end of the 2016 academic year - would be used to help the new groups co-ordinator to slowly get acquainted with this job, which is very rewarding! The Group Leaders do a great job and the Co-ordinator is there to support them when required, and help members interested in starting new groups to set them up. The person for this post should be able to work as part of a team. Some knowledge of Spanish would be an advantage, to be able to keep the contact with the local people who support us at the CPC and the Town Hall - a great opportunity to practise your Spanish and learn more! Rosa will provide you with more information regarding your responsibilities.

It is important that our members are willing to be part of the body that runs our association, otherwise, without volunteers it will collapse and there will be no Oliva U3A. All members of the committee and groups co-ordinator need to be replaced after a while, new people with fresh ideas and new energy are needed to volunteer, if we want our precious Oliva U3A to continue and to thrive. Helping others we help ourselves. Without volunteers to run our organisation, without leaders to run the groups, we

will not have all these activities that we enjoy so much and help to make our lives more interesting, besides giving us the opportunity to socialise.”

Please, approach us we need you and your help! You can make a difference! Contact me as soon as possible by emailing to [email protected] and I will contact you to make arrangements to get together and provide you with all the information that you need. Looking forward to this opportunity.

Rosa Jones

Report on the trip to Make a Smile

On Sunday October 16th members of our U3A visited the Make a Smile farm at Relleu. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Tony Grande and his Charity Volunteers.

Following the welcome members were divided into two groups and each were taken on a very interesting tour of the farms facilities. It was explained how and why they grew the different vegetables on the farm. We were also shown the animals they have including the chickens of which a number of our members had already sponsored one previously.

Page 9: U3A VOICE - U3A Oliva · first see there is a new Logo and heading and secondly the home page is far more user friendly and easier to read. The additions included in this exciting

The lunch provided was excellent which included, Salad made from fresh farm produce, home made paellas and finish off with homemade Lemon Cake.

There was also a few stalls looked after by some of the volunteers these included fresh farm produce and other various items

Unfortunately we had to cancel one part of our planned trip due the the heavy rain the area had 3 days earlier. This would have been to the Olive pressing plan to see how the Olive Oil is produced. The pressing plant had been closed due to flooding and a landslide which had contaminated the machinery.

At the end of our trip Tony thanked everyone for visiting the farm and we were told the charity had raised €996.86 from our members during their visit.

The following is an email I received from Tony Grande following our visit.

Evening Mick, just a quick thank you to you and all the U3A members for your continuing help and support. I hope everybody enjoyed their day out at the farm project I know we all enjoyed your company, I will get Gemma to send you a receipt for your generous donation tomorrow and a thank you letter to the U3A members. Monies raised today (including the line dancers donation of €408) was a grand total of €1,404.86 fantastic!!!

Talk soon, very best Tony
