THE OLIVA
U3A VOICE
OCTOBER 2016 ISSUE 15
In this issue, I have included all the upto date travel information
available, this will hopefully help you decide which of the different places
you wish to visit. At the present time the available trips are experiencing
a serious lack of interest and bookings from you our members. All the
trips and events take a large amount of time to plan and execute, so your
Travel Team are asking for your support in booking on these trips. No
one wishes to see our trips reduced or even cancelled due to the lack of
interest but this could happen. Without the minimum number of
members/guests taking part these trips cannot continue due to losses
that are incurred.
Your New Badges, if you were unable to collect your New Badge/s at
our September Meeting these will be available at the Polivalent in
October.
If you were at our September General Meeting and experienced delays
and difficulties in collecting your Badge/s, I would take this opportunity to
apologise to you all for the problems and delays incurred.
Please note we are asking all members to wear your Badges when
attending our Monthly Meetings plus all your Group meetings and classes.
The reason for this request is to ensure visitors and guests can be easily
identified.

October Monthly Meeting
Very Important Announcement
THIS MEETING WILL BE AT OUR NEW VENUE THE POLIVALENT
details of how to find the Polivalent click here
The presenter for this meeting will be Bruno the dog listener.
This is a brief outline of Bruno´s presentation
Bruno does not call himself a dog whisperer. He prefers to "listen" to
what dogs are saying, although dogs do not talk with words.
According to him dogs communicate in a different way. They "talk" with
what we call "body language".
He will explain to us what he means by that.
We look forward to seeing all our members both old and new a
this meeting.

The following is a newspaper report on the cheque we presented to the

Summer Party held at the Moli Canyar restaurante at the end of June.
The total raised from the raffle was 525 €uros A very big thank you goes
to everyone who purchased raffle tickets on the night.
The following is an email I received from Tony Grande
the Ambassador for the Make a Smile Charity, following our visit on the
15th of September.
Hi Mick
Just a few lines to say it was lovely to see you guys today at Relleu and a
very big thank you to all the U3A members for their fantastic donation of
€525. Sorry if I got a little emotional its just things are a little difficult at
the moment and hard to keep on top of the needs for so many children
and your generous donation came as a very welcome helping hand but a
total surprise. I will get Lucy to forward you a receipt in the morning, a
very big thank you once again and looking forward to seeing you all on
the 16th.
Very best regards, Tony

Vacancy for a Groups Co-ordinator
We are urgently seeing a member who feels he or she could fill the
position of Groups Co-ordinator. Unfortunately our present Co-ordinator
Rosa has found it necessary due to personal circumstances to step down
from this important position.
We are looking for a person who can communicate effectively with
different people and have good organisational skills. The ability to speak
Spanish is a big advantage.
The Group Co-ordinators responsibilities are,
(1). to communication with Group Leaders,
(2). organising venues for group activities and
(3). along with the assistant Groups Co-ordinator answer emails from
Group Leaders and Members. You do not have to become a committee
member but this would be an advantage as this will aid effective
communication between yourself and the committee and help solve any
problems that may arise far more effectively and quickly.
Training and effective ongoing backup will be given to the successful
person.
I would ask all interested members to please contact me on:
[email protected] to arrange a meeting or seek more
information. This is an important position within our U3A and we wish to
fill it as quickly as possible.

A Message from our Almoner
Did you know that U3A Oliva can offer help to members in temporary
difficulty due to ill health or accident? As part of our policy of self-help
and sharing, we have an Almoner who keeps a register of members
willing to assist with the loan of medical equipment or with translation,
dog walking, shopping, hospital visits etc.
This is not a substitute for the usual emergency and social services, but
the kind of help that we would receive from family if they were closer.
We need to update the list of equipment and helpers. If you can assist
with either, please email [email protected] . This is also the
address to use if you need help.
For more information please visit the ‘caring and sharing’ page on
the ‘Members’ tab of the U3A website. (You will need to be logged
in as this is for members only).
email the Almoner on:- [email protected]

This is a personal request as Vice President
If any member can assist me in identifying possible speakers for our
Monthly Meetings, during this coming U3A year, I would ask you to
contact me at [email protected] or on 634453459. I am very
interested to here from you and please remember that your help
is invaluable at all times and especially in identifying new speakers and
topics. All your help will undoubtedly prove to be a great benefit to our
meetings and members. Thank you.
CAR SHARING, We have a number of members who find it difficult to attend Meetings or
Groups due to the fact they can not drive and do not always live local to
Oliva. If it is possible for you to assist in collecting and transporting a
member local to yourself, to a meeting and back home, would you please
contact me at the email address at the bottom of this newsletter. Please
include your location and telephone number. Thanking you in advance.
YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS,
At the present time we have a number of members email addresses that
are disabled or unsubscribed. This causes a problem when we need to
contact you or you wish to register for a trip etc. Can I ask, if you know
of any member who is not receiving The Voice or normal emails, to have
them contact our webmaster and ask for their email address to be
reinstated. Likewise if you know of any member who is registered with a
non genuine email address, again I would ask you to contact them and
ask them to register a genuine email address with our webmaster so he
can amend their profile.
Thank you for your time in reading this edition, our November issue of The
Voice will be with you on the 15th of November.
Mick.
