THE TZOLKIN, SOLAR GLIPHS AND GALACTIC TONES

1. Conception

The main purpose of this text is to explain in the simplest possible way what

the Mayan calendar is about and what benefit this knowledge can bring to our

life. Since 2005 some other friends and I have been involved with the Mayan

calendar and living by the Mayan calendar has allowed us to increase our self-

awareness, as well as to understand and deal with situations we attract to our

daily life in a better way.

The 21st of December of 2012 is in the past and nothing seems to be different.

Wasn’t the world going to end or to change dramatically1? Well, it seems that

not for the moment. It might have been rather that as usual we have

misunderstood something; nevertheless it is undeniable that there is an

increasing movement of people awakening to a spiritual life beyond any

religion2.

In my case, this spiritual awakening has been linked to a close contact with

mountains and lagoons. Rivers, waterfalls, lakes; all bodies of water are great

masters. They have something to teach us and allow us to discover something

new about ourselves each time we come into contact with them. Thanks to

Professor Masuro Emoto we also know now that the water itself has conscience

and responds to the intention of words and music in particular ways; classical

music creates harmonious formed crystals whereas heavy metal music creates

chaotic ones3,4,5.

While researching American indigenous creational myths for the writing of The

Water Planet6 I was lead to the magnificent Mayan culture and thus, to the

Mayan calendar. What I discovered gave me not only a better understanding of

myself as a human being, but a plausible explanation for the roots of the

contemporary environmental crisis. How could this be? Who were the Mayans?

1 This also due to the scientific fact that magnetic field of the planet has been steadily decreasing during the

lasts years, raising the fear of a polar shift attached to the precession of the equinoxes. 2 Melchizedek, Drunvalo, Living in the heart, 2003.

2. Who Were the Mayans and why are they important?

At the arrival of the Spanish conquerors to the American continent there were

three mayor indigenous civilizations. The Incas of South America, who mainly

lived in what today is Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador; the Aztecs of Mexico and the

Mayans of Central America in what today is Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and

the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico7.

While walking the Inka trail from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, I met a Peruvian

descendent of the Incas who explained to me that The Incas practiced and

memorized an accounting system called quipu that used a series of knots for

accounting purposes, but they never developed a writing system.

On the other hand, the Aztecs developed icons that were used in the writing of

the so called borbonic code8, but this were not as elaborated as the one

developed by the Mayans.

Instead, at the time of the three major Amerindian civilizations conquest, the

Mayan have developed the most sophisticated communication system, an

aesthetic graphic language made up of glyphs, composed of more than seven

hundred signs, able to represent all manner of thinking.

Each glyph follows a highly elaborated design that is performed with accuracy.

A glyph is made by the drawing of a square with rounded edges and elements

embedded inside, accompanied by a number of signs located abroad. As an

example, bellow we find the glyph that represent the seed.

Besides, the glyph has a color which in this case is yellow, an allusion to the

sun, whose energy and light is required for the seed to blossom and produce a

three, able to give fruits and therefore, abundance, which at the same time

7 I won’t make a quote here; I remember this for the lessons of American History that I took at the Champagnat

High School in Bogota, Colombia; but for more information I clearly remember that Augusto Montenegro was the author of our American History main reference book, “Historia de América”.

8 This document contains an adivinatory calendar of 260 days, with a similar structure used by the Mayan

Tzolkin.

Page 4: Tzolkin Maya Eng

can be associated with the golden color. On top of the main square we can see

the notation for the number 4, for instance.

Performing the glyphs was a way of understanding the cosmos and the essence

of living things. The Mayans used the glyphs to tell stories, to write the

prophecies for the generations to come9, to codify their complex astronomical

studies and to build the calendars on ceramic, jade, wood, metals and bones10.

When entering to the Mayan world, what perhaps calls by far the attention is

their knowledge of Astronomy that allowed them to build a sophisticated series

of calendars, among them, the Tzolkin, their sacred solar-lunar galactic

calendar.

3. The Tzolkin

The Mayans built 16 calendars, some are based on the movement of the Earth

around the sun, others on the movement of the moon around the Earth, while

others are based on the orbit of Planet Venus as well as the movement of the

Solar System related to the star Sirius11. The sacred Mayan calendar or

Tzolkin, as the Mayans refers to it, is a solar, lunar, galactic calendar, where

twenty solar glyphs are taking different positions that vary from one to thirteen

galactic tones12.

The solar glyphs are composed by four color groups, the red race responsible

for the startups; the white race responsible for the interpersonal relationships;

the blue race responsible for social transformations through actions and the

9 Among the Mayan prophecies there is the one of global warming due to actions based on a selfish-

materialistic society that would be careless with the planet and its species, as well as due to the increment in the solar activity (Third Prophecy).

10

The of 21st of December 2012 so called date as “end of the world” was not ever officially stated by the

Mayan council presided by Don Alejandro. What is changing is the conciseness of human beings that are starting to vibrate higher, ending the selfish models of living for yourself, for a model of life that takes care of the planet, other living species and other human beings.

11

The three most common are the Haab, solar, composed by 365 days on 18 cycles of 20 days each and a Wajeb period of five days; the 5,125-year Long Count, and the sacred Tzolkin of 260 days, fractal of the 25,625 years cycle that the solar system around Alcyone, central star of the Pleiades. The three of them were used to synchronize events. Every 52 years solar Haab is synchronized with 73 Tzolkin cycles, as the solar system rotates every 52 years being the Pleiades in the Zenith, since they belongs to the same gravitational system, as postulated by the British astronomer Edmund Halley, being confirmed years after by the German astronomer Paul Otto Hesse.

Each day, the couple conformed by a solar glyph with a galactic tone, is bounded to

produce the energy of a kin14.

Figure 1. Tzolkin Maya

14

For the Mayan a kin can be a human being, or the combination of a solar glyph with a galactic tone; the matrix that

forms the Tzolkin contains 260 kins. This means that each day is made of a ying-yan energy, a feminine

information-energy stream coming from the center of the galaxy (the galactic tone – 13 galactic tones) and a

masculine energy, coming from the sun (the solar glyph – 20 solar glyphs).

We only see the sun during the day, but at night, if we are lucky enough to be

outside a city, we can be able to see thousands of starts in the sky, all of them

belonging to our galaxy, the Milky Way. So the Mayas were aware that each day is

made up of both, feminine and masculine energy, whereas our western culture is

based just on the solar energy and a solar calendar of 365 days, very masculine,

that is among other things the reason why there are many wars in the world and

why our culture has privileged the left hemisphere of the brain, very rational15.

The Figure 1 on page 7 is a Mayan Tzolkin. It is basically a 20 rows by 13 columns

matrix arrangement, where the first thirteen solar glyphs in the first row or

enchanted wave are one after the other, from position 1 to 13, while in the second

enchanted way we put the 14th in the first column and so on until with put the last

solar glyph of the twenty, the Sun, in the position number seven, corresponding to

the spectral tone. If we repeat this operation thirteen times in the same order (1 to

20 again and again), the successive placement of the solar glyphs will appear only

once in each galactic tone. So, if we use the solar glyph of the Sun as a reference

for this explanation, as it is the last of the twenty, it also appears in the last

position of the Tzolkin, the 260, being the matrix array of 20 solar glyphs by 13

galactic tones. We then say that the Kin number 260 is the Cosmic Sun, being the

Kin a combined meaning of the cosmic galactic tone that qualifies the energy

contained in the solar glyph of the sun.

In addition to the information contained in Table 2 with respect to the solar glyphs,

and recorded in Table 1, with reference to the galactic tones, it is worth deepening

the type of energy that is anchored in the Kin, from the solar glyphs. When a man

creates it is again as a child, avant-garde writers experimented with free

association and automatic writing. Let the magic of the monkey jump from one

glyph to another, putting an idea or set of ideas that allow us to increase our

awareness of its meaning. I will take the same order that appears repeatedly in the

Tzolkin, according to Table 2.

You attract the energy required to create.

You are responsible for your spiritual evolution.

The obstacles to achieve your targets are inside yourself.

15

Although it is not very rational, for instance, to hunt species until they disappear.

Page 9: Tzolkin Maya Eng

9

You must learn to germinate and sustain by yourself.

Human beings will not have started a real evolution path until assume their

sexual energy as sacred. This energy is managed by the glyph of the serpent,

which was demonized by the Jewish-Christian tradition, together with the

woman, and declared as responsible for the loss of paradise. If we want to

evolve we must identify why the "inner child" is addicted to relationships that

harm. Has been repressed or abused, is she/he afraid? Once this is overcome,

one find persons that vibrates higher, in healthier relationships. This involves

putting limits and managing detachment. When we accept damage we

increase the shortcoming of the other and start getting involved in our own

damage. Sexual energy is life energy, kundalini energy handled along the

spinal. From there, it contributes in evolved beings to clairvoyance, by a

quantum jump, allowing shifting conciseness from the third to the fourth

dimension, as it happens in the Sky Walker solar glyph, sexual energy that

once sublimated helps to the opening of the third eye. This is the energy that

has been manipulated by religions. It is so important that human mortality is

related to this manipulation. It is vital to properly manage it, and deliver it

with love to the one you love. In this sense, celibacy is worse than

promiscuity, because it is the denial of life itself. When the serpent glyph is in

shadow, conflicts occur and sexual dysfunction appears. Denial of sexual

pleasure or people with promiscuous double life.

Much of the success in interpersonal relationships lays on

detachment, leaving the old without pain and taking the new

naturally; the end of a relationship is also a mean to promote

major changes and germination. It needs pruning so that the garden

grows green again.

It is convenient to hold an energy that helps to our spiritual development; this

can be canalized trough the solar glyph of the hand and its healing power.

The beauty of the sidereal plane, the aesthetics, harmony, femininity and

intelligence come together and are canalized within the star glyph.

The moon is the symbol of sacred eroticism. At the level of the moon there are

not healthy or unhealthy people, but happy or unhappy. We must not fight

Page 10: Tzolkin Maya Eng

10

our feelings, but listen to them, make our dreams come truth. Some high

mountains contain lagoons near their peaks; these water bodies are sacred,

among other things because they allow the presence of two moons. In

Colombia, the high mountains’ lagoons were sacred such as Siecha, Guatavita

and Iguaque for the Muiscas, inhabitants of the Andes. The moon glyph

symbolizes the reflection of the moon in a lagoon.

If you live in love with yourself, you can share it. Once you have worked with

yourself, you can work with others, share you and contribute to the collective.

Self-esteem is built backwards, Moon to Snake, while collective conscience

forward, from Dog to Sun. The Dog anchors fourth dimensional love.

Dishonesty or lack of loyalty is what damage relationships. The dog is guided

by the power of the heart, which anchors the galactic radio frequency that

sustains the creation.

Between the Cosmic Dog, Kin 130, and the magnetic monkey, Kin 131, is the

half of the Tzolkin. The monkey is the great bond as well as the gap between

the third and the fourth dimension. The monkey itself represents duality.

Night, Akbal, Monkey, Chuen, and Sun, Ahau, are the glyphs which handle

pure energies of fourth dimension. Beyond the sex organs already present in

the Night glyph, the Monkey glyph has embedded three key chakras, basic,

heart and crown, just requires joining them to be a sun. His greatest task is

reconciling the two brain hemispheres, and incidentally, the child with the

adult. The child represents the fourth dimension, while the adult the third

one. The Idea is integrating heart and mind through the communication

chakra. Flow with spontaneity and understand that life is a game. Your inner

child is the greatest Creator, let him have fun. Play the wizard being one with

the creation. The joyful monkey, anchors the power of laughter.

The Human glyph is the last one allowing the transit between third and fourth

dimensions. It is a channel that allows developing the intellectual being;

understanding it and bearing in mind its meaning allows you to increase your

creational power "you can make whatever you think". Hence, the importance

of our thoughts and views on the conquest of our dreams. This is relevant,

due to this way one may no longer depend upon the Plan that was assigned in

the fifth dimension; seizes the power to prove oneself as Creator. The horn in

on the ram of this yellow glyph means that the most important life struggles

are not outside, but occur within each one. Working with dreams is important

to access the fourth dimension, and the cultivation of dreams is proportional

to the weight of the covers. To the extent that we live closer to ourselves, we

Page 11: Tzolkin Maya Eng

11

can better remember them; there are always clues, solutions, and metaphors

of our life in there. The Human arises when the monkey has integrated child

and adult. Heart and Mind crystallized in the communication. In order to

conquer himself, the human has the willpower. In the communication chakra

inside the throat is crystallized the Cristic power, being possible to address

the own energy, acting as a channel. With freedom, self-influences others will.

This is the energy of the teachers.

The World’s Bridger has two hands pointing to Heaven and two feet on Earth,

the purpose is to find a philosophy based on universal principles that allow

walking the planet with values favorable for evolution and spiritual growth.

This glyph represents a magician's face, eyes, nose and mouth; he is laughing,

may not appear, but it is in the center of the situation, even though there are

several fronts to attend. Find balance to each situation.

Eagle. Power of the mystical fly. Vision of broad overview that allows to

identify where are you and where are you going, with the idea of totality; last

and most sublimated transformation in the transit between the fourth and

fifth dimension.

The warrior anchors the energy of the Christ on Earth.

The ship in which we sailed through the universe in this evolutionary trip is

our water planet, the Earth. Here we are and we must learn

tell us the truth while traveling.

All fights and misunderstandings are based on lack of clarity. If the energy of

the warrior anchors the Christ, the mirror anchors the one of God. The purest

of the refinements is the acceptance of equity in the contact with the others,

on whom we reflect one to each other in the hall of mirrors.

Rains and storms wash out, clean and catalyze the renewal of energy.

The Sun illuminates deeply, we transcend and evolve with his light.

4. Solar glyphs, races, elements and cardinal points

Mankind has nothing else to learn from the third dimension, we know about the

atom and the quantic physics is starting to understand that subatomic particles

behave in a probabilistic way, they appear in inspected places when getting closer

to light’s speed, which can only be understood if there is another dimension, and as

Einstein showed, there is a fourth dimension.

We also are unveiling the secrets of the genetic code; the only way we can move

forward is towards spiritual development and the subtle worlds of the fourth

dimension.

Looking at the Solar Glyphs as shown in Table 3, by placing them in columns of

fours they will form five columns. Each one of them has an associated physical

dimension, or facilitates the transition between one dimension to the next. Thus,

glyphs in columns 1, 3 and 5 are associated with transitions between the second,

Page 13: Tzolkin Maya Eng

the third and the fourth dimension, to the next higher dimension, whereas columns

2 and 4 contain the glyphs that anchor energies of the third and the fourth

dimension, respectively.

The solar glyphs in Table 3 may also be grouped in rows that form races, having

each one associated a cardinal point, an element of the nature and a meaning or

purpose, as shown in the last two columns of the Table 3.

5. Human Holon, clans and terrestrial families

On the other hand, the human body has an arrangement of Tzolkin receptors that

are embedded in the fingers and toes, being both fingers and toes, receptors of the

solar glyphs as shown on Figure 2, whereas the joins (ankles, knees, heaps, purses,

elbows, shoulders and the neck) are receptors of the galactic tones16.

Figure 2. Human Holon

The Human Holon is the electromagnetic design through which energy is captured and sent through the body. The

key element are the chakras, the thirteen joints, each one of them associated with a galactic tone, and the twenty

6. Enchanted Wave and its meaning throughout life

On the other hand, the 20 enchanted waves comprising the Tzolkin shown in Figure

1, or in other words, each one of the rows, is composed of four quadrants, whose

extremes are known as the entry and exit gates. Our planet within the solar system

moves following a spiral around the center of the galaxy and each one of the

enchanted waves can be represented as it is shown in the Figure 3, below.

Figure 3. Enchanted Wave of the Dog

As an example appears the 14th enchanted wave of the Tzolkin, that from the solar

glyph of the dog (entry gate) goes to the solar glyph of the wind (exit gate). I have

placed here as an example due to it is the enchanted wave to which I belong, given

the date I was born in the Gregorian calendar, means I am blue lunar monkey, Kin

171, in the Mayan calendar17.

The enchanted wave in the Tzolkin can be associated to what in the Sumerian

astrology is the ascendant, the personality in relation to the individual life’s mission.

Anyone wishing to increase self-knowledge trough universal/galactic conscience

may identify what his place in the Tzolkin matrix is, by using the equivalent

between the Gregorian and the Mayan calendars, unveiling his galactic birthday this

way (see note 17). Once this has been done, we can set our attention in the

enchanted wave (14th in the example) where the Kin (171 in the example), is

positioned (second place, lunar tone, in the example); the entry gate and exit gate

are particularly important because they shape the evolution path, as well as life’s

mission during the present reincarnation18.

In the example, the enchanted wave is shaped by the unconditional love of the dog,

which is guided by the power of the heart, whose live mission and freedom is

achieved through the solar glyph of the wind, meaning, through communication.

17

The equivalents can be found by using a synchronization tool, available at this website. 18

The mayists don’t “believe” in reincarnation, we have experienced it or we know it does exist.

Page 15: Tzolkin Maya Eng

15

The enchanted wave goes downward in the first quadrant, from left to right for the

second quadrant, upward during the third and inside in the fourth one. Each one of

the 13 glyphs is receiving the data frequency energy or galactic tones of one to

thirteen, becoming Kin. Due to the fractal characteristic with Tzolkin operates with,

these kins may be associated with four year solar cycles each, along which the

individual is doing his mission in life.

At the age of 52 years, we should have achieved whatever we have come to do in

this planet. It is then, after 52 solar cycles, which at the same time are 73 Tzolkin

laps, when we returns to the unity, and the birthday date (for my case 10th of

November) will match the galactic birthday again, blue solar monkey, in the

example.

The solar system orbits the central sun of the Pleiades, which are aligned every 52

years, as could be seen by the English astronomer Edmund Halley. Nothing is

coincidence, or is found by chance in the Tzolkin. We are part of a gravitational

system around the Pleiades and of a galaxy that radiates us with her energy. The

Mayans developed the Tzolkin as a legacy, to help our evolution and allow us

understanding we are part of a wider community. Moreover, as shown in Figure 3,

the Tzolkin is not something outside us, but it is embedded inside the three-

dimensional space suit that we call the body, our energy container as well.

7. Mayan Astrology and the 13 Moons calendar

Unlike western astrology, which is based on the Sumerian-Babylonian one, and thus

in the number 12 (twelve zodiacal signs), Mayan astrology has 13 houses

associated with the moon, as there are thirteen turns of 28 days that the moon

takes to complete one global translational year (13x28=364 days). A Wajeb day (a

day out of time) on July the 25th, which is synchronized at the sunset while the

Sirius Star rises below the planet Venus, is added, to complete 365 days and

celebrate a new year. Every 52 years a five-day Wajeb period is established, to

synchronize the lunar and solar calendars with the galactic fractal of 260 days.

The Zodiacal signs in the Mayan Astrology are the same 12 of the western

Astrology (Sumerian-Babylonian) plus the Ophiucus constellation which is located

between Scorpio and Sagittarius, and was withdrawn by the Babylonian priests, to

hide the feminine power of the moon. Each of the zodiacal signs corresponds to a

moon, as shown in Table 6.

8. A calendar to increase equity conciseness

Some years ago it was almost impossible to be in contact with the Mayan world

skipping Jose Arguelles’ work. While going through his books I recognized the lucid

mind of a man who by some has been declared to be crazy, but something similar

happened to Galileo Galilei, Nicolas Kepler and some others. The contribution made

by Arguelles to decipher the meaning of the Tzolkin, based on the double spiral of

the genetic code, goes beyond the limits of archeology and anthropology and is

only comparable to that made by Champollion decoding the Rosetta stone, by

applying comparative knowledge of the Greek and Sanskrit alphabets, unveiled to

our knowledge the Egyptian alphabet code.

What indeed Argüelles has made has connotations beyond of archeology,

astronomy and metaphysics, and will be recognized not so much to the extent of

time as to the extent that we learn to measure it and change our reduced linear

conception of it. The linear time is just a particularity of the three-dimensional

space.

Nevertheless, the dream spell calendar proposed by Jose Arguelles stated that we

would achieve the noosphere and somehow the fifth dimension by the last day of a

modification of the Mayan calendar he made, this is, the 25th of July 2013, during

the wayeb day. So far we are still here, in this tree dimensional word.

More recently researchers such as Drunvalo Melkidedek has pop out in the new age

movement with relevant works such as “The ancient secret of the flower of life Vol.

1 & Vol. 2”, “Merkaba”, “Living in the Heart”, “The Serpent of Light” and “The

Mayan Ouroboros”. These books have unveiled much more about the fourth and the

fifth dimensions and the common conciseness to which we are going to eventually

arrive soon.

So far, the Mayan prophecies are there also to increase our awareness.

Now, the calendar I am proposing is different to all. It is not a Mayan calendar but

from American indigenous traditions and astronomical knowledge, including the

Mayan Tzolkin, it takes the importance of maintaining a yin-yang balance, keeping

the moon and not only the sun as a reference during the year. It takes also the

commitment of working on equity awareness, as the Mayan say goodbye:

- “Inla kesh” (I am another thy)

- Alaken – says the other. (Until the next step)

This equity awareness is embedded in the calendar starting and finalizing the year

during the equinoxes. And celebrating the midyear right in another equinox with a

meditation for the world peace, as there is not reason to make a war if we realized

we are all equals.
