We were prompted to program and design a 300 key hotel on the Dusable Park and adjacent Spire Site. The site is at the mouth of the Chicago River, bisected by Lake Shore Drive, and a neighbor to Navy Pier. The hotel has two primary guests: a resort guest and an extendedstay business guest. The hotel also contains a spa, fitness amenities, conference facilities, a restaurant and bar. The project focus’s on the neighbor and the citizen of Chicago by attempting to create a multi-layered lakefront park that a hotel/resort can co-exist and float above.

The goal of the proposal was to create a conceptual continuum of academic space through the original volume of the Bauakademie. This is achieved by slic-ing the original volume into three; one ground floor volume, one working professional practice, and one administration. As studio space interrupts thesesloping volumes a sandwich is created which sus-pends the professional practice at the apex of the building; here the strictly theoretical study ofarchitecture and the reality of professional practice meet.

/// Innenhof HausTHESIS Define and experiment with a loose modular system that interacts in the X,Y and, Z directions to create varying modes of green space, from large courtyards to private gardens that can be used by inhabitants of the complex and the surrounding Blacksburg community. This housing concept design inhabits one of the 16 original blocks of Blacksburg, VA and was designed to address an important urban corner at Main St. and Clay St. It brings not only a new housing ty-pology to the town, but also new commercial and community space giving an urban feel to the far end of the main drag of town. It has 46 units and close to 1000 m2 of new commer-cial and community space.

FIRE BREAK TRAIL
2003Fire rages through the Oregon Forest. 21,113 acres burn. Newly built homes succumb to the blaze. The dreams of excited suburbanites fade with the flames.
2011A new museum is commissioned; a path marks the edge of the destruction of 2003. As the path unfolds, the museum is created throughout the forest. The museum marks the ground where man and fire met.

2023Fire rages again. The museum trail protects the forest to the north and west, but the museum burns with the forest. Exhibits bend and glass breaks, and the memories of both fires are left within the twisted steel even as the forest regrows and the suburbs forget.

/// RefugeRefuge was selected as a top 20 entry in the 2012 Virginia Society Competition. The competition is a weekend long schereet in which all Virgina architecture students compete. The 2012 Breif was to design hurricane relief housing in the Outer Banks, NC.The Concept for the project was year-round refuge. Modular housing for people in post hurricane times, and a marine life refuge everyday. Based on the tectonic of an artificial reef, concrete elbows create an atola like structure that extends into the waters of Pamlico Sound, creating a new pier/hous-ing typology where interaction and integration are blurred.
