Objective

S.W.B.A.T- write ratios and percent's to analyze the data and draw conclusions about the data.

A two-way frequency table examines the relationship between two categorical variables.

This table makes predictions by recognizing relationships and trends

• The example above gives information about ticket sales for two movies. The table also separates those sales into ticket purchases by men and tickets purchased by women.

Example-Of those 103 tickets sold for story of love, 78 tickets or 75.7% were sold to men. Of those 90 men who purchased tickets, 78 of them, or 86.7%, purchased a ticket for story of love.

Problems To solve 1-5Calculate the ratio and percent for each of the following.

1. Men who purchased tickets to the “martial arts champ” to all men.

2. Men who purchased tickets to “martial arts champ” to all who purchased tickets to martial arts champ.

3. Women who purchased tickets to martial arts champ to all who purchased tickets to martial arts champ.

4. Women who purchased tickets to story of love, to all who purchased tickets to story of love

5. Which movie is more popular with women? With men?

1-5 Answers- Discussion 1. Add 78+12 to get the total amount of men, which gives you 12:90.

to turn this into a percent, divide 12 by 90, and move the decimal point twice to the right giving you 13.3% or multiply 12x100 and divide by 90, giving 13.3%

2. add both amounts of men and women who purchased tickets for martial arts champ which gives you the ratio 12:98. to get the percent, 12x100 divided by 98 to get 12.2%

3. add 86 and 12 to get the ratio 86:98. multiply 86x100 divided 98 to get the percent 87.8%

4. add 25 and 78 to get the ratio 25:103. then multiply 25 and 100, divided by 103, to get the percent of 24.3%

5. when you study the chart, you see women purchased more tickets to martial arts champ than story of love, while me purchased more tickets to story of love than martial art champ. Ratio- martial arts champ; story of love.

6. add 79 and 21, to give a total of 100 to end with a ratio 79:100. to turn this into a percent, put 79/100. 79%

7. add 55 and 45, to get the sum of 100 giving you the ratio 55:100. turn into a percent 55%

8. add 67 and 33 to get a total of 100. the ratio is 67:100. convert into a percent; 67%

9. add 45 and 55 to get a total of 100 with the ratio 45:100. the percent being 45%
