Do you also want to leave?

I have experienced, and I’m sure you have, too, people who have

proclaimed that they “le the Church.” These former Catholics are

not just those who have li le by li le dried away due to indiffer-

ence, but Catholics who feel anger, perhaps resentment, towards the

Church for so many of their own reasons, as well as reasons we are

all so painfully aware of these days. Some of these people are

among our friends and family members. I always try to listen, per-

haps engage them with some discussion of faith. However, it is al-

ways a source of pain for us when we see people walk away from the

sacraments and the Church, because we know what God offers to us

through grace, His life and His love. We so want that for all to have.

In today’s Gospel, we read that people walked away from Jesus him-

self because they just could not accept his teaching and all that he

was offering to them… “many of his disciples returned to their for-

mer way of life and no longer accompanied him.”

What we do not know, since it is not recorded in the scriptures, is

how many may have come back to being a disciple of Jesus. I believe

some did. Maybe you yourself are among this group, someone who

walked away, and then realized there was not nothing that could fill

the emp/ness le by not having the sacramental grace of our

Church. Not only realizing it, but hungering for it.

When Jesus asked his special group of Apostles if they too would

leave him, Peter responded… “to whom shall we go?” We can try to

fill our lives with all kinds of subs/tutes for Jesus and His truth. The

world offers much to try to subs/tute for the need of God’s grace

and the sacraments of the Church, but in the end it just leaves us

empty. Peter knew there was nowhere else to go, but some of us

have to figure that out for ourselves.

With this thought, I share these excerpts from “The Hound of

Heaven” by Francis Thompson:

(The poet speaks) I fled Him, down the nights and down the days; I

fled Him, down the arches of the years; I fled Him, down the laby-

rinthine ways of my own mind; and in the mist of tears I hid from

Him…..

(God speaks) Alack, thou knowest not how li"le worthy of any love

thou art! Whom wilt thou find to love ignoble thee, save Me, save

only Me? All which I took from thee I did but take, not for thy

harms, but just that thou might’st seek it in My arms.

Ah, fondest, blindest, weakest, I am He Whom thou seekest! Thou

dravest love from thee, who dravest Me.

I encourage you to read the whole poem someday, perhaps as a

medita/on. We are all pilgrims together on this earthly journey back

to our heavenly homeland. Some/mes the way becomes dark, con-

fusing and terrifying. We are frail human beings walking this way

together, stumbling and falling, and helping each other along. But

we never forget this unchanging truth…God is in our midst now and

always.

God bless,

Sister Eileen

flection, and time for reconciliation in order to guide our thoughts and prayers.

After cleansing our souls, we will enter into adoration of the Blessed Sacrament,

simply appreciating God’s endless love for us. Finally, we will close with shared

Twenty-four Hours with the Lord….

Friday September 7th - Saturday, September 8th

Pope Francis has encouraged each parish around the world to

open its doors for 24 hours to be with the Lord ~ so that the

faithful might encounter Jesus Christ anew in

Eucharistic Adoration.

It is intended to be a time of reflection and prayer and a chance

to rediscover; or perhaps discover for the first time, the great

mercy at the heart of the Catholic Faith.

At St. Patrick Parish we will begin these 24 hours at the 9:00AM

Mass on Friday , September 7

th

. The Mass will be followed by

23 hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

At 7:00 PM that evening, there will be a time of Sacred Music

and a guided meditation.

We will pray, as Beloved Children of the Father, asking the

Lord, “make our hearts like yours .”

Building and Appeal Update….

Our Growing Together as a Family of Faith Appeal continues to gain momentum as we pre-

pare for our growing community.

We are approaching the finish line for our new parish offices. We look forward to an Open

House soon after the work has been completed.

The preliminary work for the second & third phases of our project is now underway.

Our next phase is the installation of a new playground for our parish. The preliminary architec-

tural drawings have been reviewed and there are some updates that need to be included. There will be an area for our young children,

with playground equipment, a safe surface for the children. The playground, in its preliminary stages has a small area for a basketball

net as well as a large open area with grass for kickball. The entire area will have a fence and landscaping.

We will keep you updated as we progress.

Thank you for your continued generosity and financial support.

Volunteers from St. Patrick Parish

will be serving the meal at St. Tere-

sa’s Soup Kitchen in Norristown on

Wednesday, August 29. We leave

our church parking lot at 8 AM & return

to Malvern by 11:30 AM. Thank you for your continued

support & contributions. If anyone has any questions,

call Ann at 610-389-0667.
