Dear Parishioners and Friends, Humility is the perfec on that Jesus constantly put before the eyes of His disciples, just like the child in today's Gospel (Mk. 9: 30-37). Humility means humbling ourselves, which reveals the whole truth about us. It means we give consent to experience our true insignificance. Rhodicius wrote that as water flows down the mountains into the valleys it does not stop at the peaks, just as the grace of God flows to those who are the lowest, and does not stop for those who put themselves above others.

Humble humans are similar to angels, because they don't look out for themselves, they act like they were invisible, and they have no needs of their own. Instead they ask what others need of them and most of all what God wants. The fathers of the church believed God created angels be-fore he created anything else. St. Hildegard of Bingen saw angels as the first fruits of God's crea on. She described them as having been formed from light, reflected off God's light for the people. The people also represent God as a mirror reflec on of Him. Man is closer to God and God is closer to man, when remaining almost invisible. An invisi-ble, humble man cannot see himself, but all those who look at him, He sees only God, and when he prays God sees in him only the people for which he begs!

The Lord Jesus put a small child in the middle and said, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me also receives the One who sent me. "Pride, comfort, and lack of humility o en directs a mother and father to an abor on clinic and only true love and hu-mility allows for many parents to adopt abandoned and orphaned children. It's them that will receive a great re-ward in heaven!

Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele, Pokora to doskonałość, którą Jezus nieustannie stawiał przed oczami uczniów, jak to dziecko z dzisiejszej Ewangelii (Mk. 9:30-37). Pokora to takie uniżanie siebie, które ukazuje prawdę o nas. To zgoda na swoją prawdziwą małość. Rodrycjusz napisał, że tak jak woda w górach spływa do dolin i nie zatrzymuje się na szczytach, podobnie łaska

od Boga spływa do tych, co są najniżej, i nie zatrzymuje się na tych, którzy nad innymi się wynoszą. Ludzie pokorni są podobni do aniołów, bo w niczym nie szukają siebie. Tak jakby ich nie było i jakby nie mieli własnych pragnień, lecz ciągle pytają, czego pragnie Bóg i w jaki sposób uszczęśliwić Boga. Większość Ojców Kościoła wyrażała przekonanie, że Bóg stworzył aniołów przed całym stworzeniem materialnym. Święta Hildegarda z Bingen widziała aniołów jako pierwociny stworzenia. Przedstawiała ich jako uformowane światłem, lustrzane postacie, które Boskie światło odbijają dla ludzi, a ludzi przedstawiają Bogu jakby w odbiciu lustra. Przybliżają człowieka Bogu i Boga przybliżają człowiekowi, sami pozostając prawie niewidoczni. Taki jest również człowiek pokorny. Jest tak uniżony, że nie widać jego samego, lecz wszyscy, którzy na niego patrzą, dostrzegają tylko Boga, a gdy on się modli, to Bóg w nim widzi osoby, za które on błaga! Pan Jezus postawił małe dziecko pośrodku i rzekł: „Kto przyjmuje jedno z tych dzieci w imię moje, Mnie przyjmuje; a kto Mnie przyjmuje, przyjmuje również Tego, który mnie posłał”. To właśnie pycha, zarozumiłaość, wygodnictwo, totalny brak pokory, często kieruje matkę i ojca do kliniki aborcyjnej. Tylko prawdziwa miłość i pokora pozwala dla wielu rodziców zaadoptować porzucone i osierocone dzieci. To właśnie tacy odbiorą wielką nagrodę w niebie! Serdecznie zapraszam wszystkich naszych parafian i gości aby włączyli się w obchody 100-lecia parafii świętej Konstancji. Wszystkie rodziny i osoby indywidualne, zarejestrowane bądź tylko przychodzące do naszego kościoła na Msze święte są zaproszone do wspólnego albumu 100-lecia. In an cipa on of the approaching 100-year anniversary of St. Constance Parish, you are invited to purchase from the "Tree of Life" a leaf on which you can place the names of your loved ones: par-ents, siblings, rela ves, friends, parishioners, priests, nuns, etc. Both the living and the dead can be named, so that their memory will last forever. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. There are both large and small leaves on the "Tree of Life". For the engraving and moun ng of each small leaf, the dona on is $250.00, while for each large leaf it is $400.00. The number of leaves is limited and there may not be enough for everyone. Please visit the rectory office to complete all neces-sary transac ons.

Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is

a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gos-

Bad couple of weeks for the news. Or good, depend-ing on how you choose to look at such things. “If it bleeds, it leads,” a er all. I’ve never liked the ex-pression, but it’s been around for a long me, and as these recent front page stories from the Chicago Tribune sug-gest, the pa ern seems to be holding: City sees most homicides in 1 day since ’03, and Spike in violent crime has city on edge, and Hunt on for officer’s killer – Slaying of Fox Lake cop leads to school lockdowns, massive search for 3 suspects. There is more front page bad news, but I don’t want to go there. Pre-cisely because of today’s Gospel, I want to go instead to a bad news story I found on the inside pages of the Tribune as I was falling asleep in bed with the paper in my hands several nights ago. The primary headline on page eight was bad enough: Search on as body parts found in Garfield lagoon. The sub-headline was unimaginable: Head, hands, feet of child discov-ered at West side park. I didn’t read the ar cle that night. More correctly, I couldn’t read it, much like I walked away from Schindler’s List years ago because I couldn’t watch it. Couldn’t bear it. Sco sh poet Rob-ert Burns got it right centuries ago: “Many and sharp the num'rous ills/ Inwoven with our frame!/ More pointed s ll we make ourselves/ Regret, remorse, and shame!/ And man, whose heav'n-erected face/ The smiles of love adorn, / Man's inhumanity to man/ Makes countless thousands mourn!” By now we’ve probably all read or heard of the discovery of the decomposing, dismembered body parts. By now we’ve probably all seen the ar st’s sketch of the child. Bright eyes. Spikey hair. Chubby cheeks. I couldn’t tell the gender of the vic m from the drawing, but as of this wri ng, the police believe the child was most likely a boy, two to three years old. And as of this wri ng, too, he remains nameless. Tears. Man’s inhumanity to man… All of today’s readings touch me in light of this atrocity. The Book of Wisdom speaks to me with this: “With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his pa ence.” St. James speaks to me with this: “Where jealousy and selfish ambi on exist, there is disorder and every foul prac ce. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits…” And Jesus speaks to me with this as he welcomes a child--also not defined by gender; also not de-fined by name--into the disciples’ midst and puts his arm around the youth: “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.” It may be a er the fact, but please join me now in receiving in Christ’s name that gender-less, name-less child found dismembered in the lagoon. Indeed, may the whole world receive this ny soul. And by our Lord’s own promise, then, may we receive God himself in the process. So that as we build up the Kingdom, the bleeding, leading head-lines may give way to be er news.
