THE YIELD MANAGEMENT SYSTEMYield Management is also referred to as Revenue Management.

It is a system that understands, anticipates and then reacts to consumer behaviorin order to maximize revenue or profit from a fixed & perishable resource.

Examples of fixed & perishable resources are airline seats & hotel room reservations.

Revenue is lost if these resources are not sold in a particular point in time.In simple terms, Yield Management tries to answer the question:

"Given our operating constraints,what is the best mix of services for us to sell within a particular timeframe,so that we generate the highest revenue?"

YIELD MANAGEMENT AIRLINE SEATSUnsold seats are a definite no-no for the airline companies,thats why they use special softwares to monitor how seats are being reserved.Only by then will they react accordingly by offering Variable Discounts onlinewhen it appears that the seats will remain unsold.In this example, a total of 16 airline seats are unsold.
