“U” (Overall heat transfer coefficient)It is used to calculate the heat transfer between the well and its surroundings.It is obtain from well test when well head temperature is available. In case of lack of well head temperature the following rule of thumb can be used:

Oil and water wells: 8 – 10 Btu/h/ft2/FCondensate wells: 5 – 7 Btu/h/ft2/FDry and wet gas wells: 1 – 3 Btu/h/ft2/F
