WELCOMING THE KENT DANCE ENSEMBLEAs Conductor Eric Benjamin has noted, “Movement is one of the major ways we think about music. Indeed, in some languages, the word for ‘music’ is the same as the word for ‘dance.’”

With that in mind, as a highlight of our June 3rd concert, Music and Dance, we are excited to share the stage with the Kent Dance Ensemble from Kent State University. Under the guidance of choreographers Kim Karpanty, Joan Meggitt, MaryAnn Black and Barbara Allegra Verlezza, the ensemble will add visual flair to this momentous performance.

Since its inception in 1990, the Kent Dance Ensemble, a pre-professional dance company, has been introducing modern dance to audiences of all ages throughout eastern Ohio as part of the university’s School of Theater and Dance.

The goal of the company is to provide a professional atmosphere and structure that will prepare the selected student members to bridge the gap between a college dance experience and working with a professional dance company. Educational residencies also bring arts appreciation and educational enhancement to the K-12 schools of the region.

The dance company manifests its goals and abilities through a varied series of programs:

• Dance Concerts• Mini-concerts• Assembly Presentations• Lecture/Demonstration Performances• Movement Workshops• Dance Technique Classes/ Choreography Classes
