Having lived in Florence, Italy, my wife’s home city, we have direct contact with artisans capable of creating the most exquisite and unique pieces imaginable. We speak the language, we understand the culture, we love the people, and above all we recognize the reality that only handful of terracotta workshops in Impruneta and Siena produce a quality product. The dirty little secret is some workshops use illegal workers from third world countries, which is both unethical and also results in an inferior product. Others cut costs by using shorter firing times, which results in terracotta that is less durable. The workshops we use have impeccable reputations and are genuine artisans. They all take pride in what they produce and the manner in which it is produced. The quality we offer and the services we give are second to none.

We began Tuscan Imports, Inc. in 1998 because of our passion for handmade Italian terracotta and that passion has never changed. We love to see the warm quality terracotta adds to any landscape and we are proud that our items have been placed in some of the most prestigious hotels, resorts, restaurants, universities, and homes throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, as well as other parts of the world. We are honored that many of America’s leading architects and landscape architects turn to Tuscan Imports when selecting planters to enhance their designs. We value the relationships we have developed and the mutual trust that has been established in the last decade and we certainly count it a blessing and do not take it for granted.

Because of expressed demand, we have also added hand-carved Vicenza stone and lightweight poly planters to our extensive inventory in order to meet the needs or our customers. Master carvers in Vicenza have the ability to produce gazebos, urns, planters, statues, benches, and fountains. They are among the most experienced stone carvers in the world.

ImprunetACollectionThe world’s finest clay comes from

Impruneta, a small village nestled in

the Tuscan hills a few kilometers from

Florence, Italy. Blessed with land that is

naturally rich in iron, copper, calcium,

and aluminum, the town has been well

known for its exceptional quality terra

cotta (cooked earth) and craftsmanship

for centuries. Hard gray earth is mined

from the surrounding hills, ground to a

powder, and mixed with water to make

this coarse bodied clay. It develops its

renown pale, terra cotta color after the

firing process and is able to endure even

the coldest climates without flaking or

crumbling. This, along with the hand of

a skilled artisan, makes the Impruneta

collection the absolute best available.

countless workshops because of its

abundance of quality clay. although

not as high in iron as clay from

Impruneta, clay from siena is known

throughout the world as quality terra

cotta that can withstand temperatures

to 10° Fahrenheit. a more refined clay,

it is smoother in texture and great for

southern climates, indoor use, or in

northern climates if sheltered during

times when temperatures drop below 10°.

GLazed TerracOTTa Our glazed terracotta is produced in the southern region of Puglia. Traditionally, each jar was made for a specific purpose – some for carrying water, some for olive oil, and some for vinegar. These jewels are made by the one remaining workshop having the capacity to replicate these jars of old. Each item, thrown by hand on the potter’s wheel, is a reminder of the southern Italian farmers of the past.
