GOOD LUCK TO OUR TULLIALLAN SWIMMING TEAM

Good luck to our swimming team representing our school at the Casey South District Swimming Sports on Thursday. We know they will give their best effort on the day. Go team!

PREPS START FULL TIME NEXT WEEK

A reminder that our prep students will come to school every day of the week from the 1st of March. We are really impressed with how they have settled into school and are ready to learn each day.

PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM

Our Music teachers, Mr Kilgour, Miss Jasiewicz and Mr Trist have begun their rehearsals for the school band, choirs, keyboards and ukulele groups. We can’t wait to hear them either via our video assembly or when we can actually perform live again.

SCHOOL VALUES AND SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS

Students are already showing their understanding of the schools 4 values of respect, relationships, responsibility and resilience. These underpin the expected behaviours outlined in our SWPBS charts. The Team Tulliallan Program that has been implemented over the last few weeks has concentrated on students practising how to speak kindly to each other, share and take turns, be responsible for belongings and own our actions.

UNIFORM REMINDERS

Wearing the Tulliallan School uniform gives sense of pride and belonging to students as part of the Tulliallan school community. The uniform is practical and comfortable for students to be able to play and move about as part of their school day. Black plain shoes without coloured or white logos are standard and easy to purchase from any shoe outlets that complements the students uniform. We want all of our students to look smart and be easily identified as a Tulliallan student.

HARMONY DAY – WE ALL BELONG THURSDAY 18TH OF MARCH

Usually Harmony Day is celebrated on the 21st of March, but as this falls on a Sunday we will be celebrating this on Thursday 18th of March. We encourage students to dress in clothes from their country of origin or orange to signify that we all belong. Unfortunately students will not be able to bring food to share to school this year, however they may like to have something in their lunchbox that they can show from their country of origin. Students will work on some tasks in their learning community to celebrate where in the world we come from as well as an understanding of Australia’s indigenous people.

CURRICULUM DAY FRIDAY 9TH MARCH

Just a reminder that we have a curriculum day planned for March 9th where our teachers will be having their First Aid update training, working in whole school curriculum teams for English, Mathematics, Wellbeing, Digital technologies and Inquiry learning to meet the school targets and learning about the implementation of High Impact

WELL-BEING REPORT

Teaching Strategies to improve student learning and achievement.

Students are not required on this day.

GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL FOR THE ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

One of the first SRC charity fundraisers for this year is supporting the Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital. This is a great way for our students to give a helping hand supporting children who are undergoing medical treatment in hospital.

On Thursday 1st of April students can have free dress day for a gold coin donation. The SRC leaders will be collecting the money for us to send to the Appeal.

Have a great week

Kathy Sharp

Dear parents and guardians,

It is with great pleasure to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of Student Welfare and Engagement here at Tulliallan Primary School. I began teaching in the classroom in 2013 at Kilberry Valley Primary School. It was here that I was introduced to and found my passion in student welfare. From there I moved on to Cranbourne Primary School to lead the student engagement program.

In my spare time I love to enjoy the simple things, exploring the outdoors and being as active as possible. Nothing beats a day down by the beach with my beautiful family.

My educational beliefs:

No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship. My ideal learning environment is one that is friendly and inviting, and where student achievements are celebrated. Their work is displayed and the room is colourful, stimulating and welcoming. Students should feel safe in their school and happy to be at school - ready to learn. Our students are encouraged to try new things and hold high expectations of themselves within a supportive and nurturing environment. I pride myself on great communication, which is key in developing a mutual appreciation and respect between students, teachers and parents.

I look forward to meeting and working with you all during my time at Tulliallan Primary School.

Take Care

Lach Clydesdale

Assistant Principal

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Good luck to our swimming team that are competing at the District swimming carnival tomorrow.

We wish you all the best and we know you will try your hardest. It is a great effort to make our swimming team and compete at the next level.

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS

Staff have been very busy this term assessing students, analysing data and determining goals to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Some students across the school will be receiving an Individual Education Plan that explains the goals that their child will be working towards this term. All IEP’s will be uploaded to COMPASS by the end of next week.

If your child has an IEP you will receive an email from your child’s teacher to explain the plan.

In next week’s newsletter I will have a detailed description of how to access the plan.

If your child is part of the Program for Student with a Disability, in Out of Home Care or Koorie you will be receiving a hard copy of a different plan that has been developed through Student Support Group meetings this week and next.

UNWELL STUDENTS

It has been brought to our attention by teachers and parents that students are coming to school unwell. It is so important that if your child is sick they do not come to school. Last week we had eight students absent from one home room due to sickness being spread. It also puts teachers at risk and then they have to have time off work to recover. We thank you for your understanding.

HOT CROSS BUN ORDERS

Hot Cross Bun orders will be the first fundraising event for 2021. Next week order forms will be sent home to families wishing to purchase hot cross buns (no obligation). All orders will be sent to school for collection on Friday March 26th after 2.00pm. Unfortunately due to the last week of term being the busiest week for Bakers Delight with Easter we could not get the orders delivered in that week.

Have a lovely week

SCHOOL NEWS

PREP

Congratulations to all of the Preps on a wonderful return to school after the five day lockdown! It was so nice to see them all return on Thursday with enthusiasm and huge smiles on their faces.

On Thursday the Preps attended Brainstorm Productions. This show highlighted the importance of a healthy mindset in a fun and entertaining way. Afterwards, the Preps reflected on the show and drew a picture of their

favourite part.

YEAR ONE

This week the Year One students were lucky enough to watch Brainstorm Productions show about the ‘H Zone’. They had a wonderful time and learnt about how important it is to have a positive mindset. The students

demonstrated their resilience and flexibility when returning to school, we are so proud of you Year One students.

YEAR THREE

Well done to the Year Three students on another successful week. You should all be very proud of the resilience you demonstrated when facing the challenges of learning from home for three days.

Throughout the week, students have worked on improving their reading comprehension, writing and maths skills. They have also investigated and compared different community celebrations during Inquiry. Keep up the fantastic

work Year Three!

YEAR TWO

This week in Year Two we have been excited to start our Reading and Number Groups. In Reading, students have enjoyed revising how to read independently, building their reading stamina and working on

choosing good fit books. In Number, students enthusiastically participated in hands on games and focus groups, as they explored concepts, such as counting and place value. Please check out these

photos of the Year Twos hard at work this week.

Well done Year Twos and keep up the great work!

YEAR FOUR

The Year Fours have been shining this week. We have been working on identifying and describing their emotions in

Wellbeing. We have been discovering who we are as Writer’s and how we use our writer’s notebook. In Inquiry we are

exploring the idea of community and why people may have migrated to Australia. The Year Four teachers are so proud of the pride students are taking in their work and are so excited

to see them continue to grow!

YEAR FIVE

The Year 5 team would love to take a minute to say how proud we are of the resilience shown by the students as we all headed into the sudden lockdown. They took it all in their stride, and it was lovely to hear from parents

about how well the students adapted to working from the Home Learning Site.

The Year 5s are really excited to be back at school with their friends and the teachers are enjoying having them back too!

YEAR SIX

What a fantastic few weeks we have had together in Year Six. It has been amazing seeing the students welcoming old and new faces into the Learning Community.

One of the highlights has been participating in our Team Building tasks as part of Team Tulliallan and Wellbeing. Students have been working together and displaying

teamwork to achieve particular goals, based on their specific tasks, through active communication.

SPECIALISTS PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We have had an action packed week in Physical Education so far. The Prep & Year 1 students are continuing their Fundamental Motor Skills, learning to catch and throw. They have begun working in small groups and moving around to different stations.

The Year 2 students have begun learning about cricket, enhancing their skills of catching and throwing to be able to apply these in a game situation later in the term. The Years 3 - 6 students are continuing to practise their Long Jump and Triple jump skills to prepare them for the House Athletics Carnival later in Term 2.

We have House Cross Country coming up in a couple of weeks on the 5th of March and encourage all students to be outside running in the lead up. Remember, Years 3 - 6 need to run 2kms!

We have district swimming on Thursday for selected students. We wish Natalie, Valerie, Oliver, Chris Jacob, Emmalin, Erel, Sam, Lauren, Navdisha, Nia, Darcy and Thehan the best of luck!

Miss Dawson, Mr McDonald and Mrs McNamara.

ART

In Art last week students produced some great artworks from the directed drawing gurus ‘Arts for Kids Hub’. This is a great youtube channel to use for students to gain confidence in their drawing skills. Students are guided step by step through an artwork and are encouraged to add their own details to their drawings. Year Prep-2 students created fantastic Koala artworks and the Senior students created drawings with a pop out contrast - Cupcake Monster and Cute Monster/Scary Monster.

MANDARIN

This week we have continued to look at the Chinese New Year celebration. Students learned about Chinese traditions and different activities we often do for Chinese New Year, such as making dumplings and writing poetry couplets. The Prep and Year 1 students had a chance to experience making dumplings. We looked at ‘jiao zi’ in different shapes and fillings. It was great to see children participate in this Chinese New Year tradition. Ms Cheng, Ms Li and Ms G.

STEM

From your teachers…This week, although it was short, students from Prep - Year 2 continued to explore some of the different technology we have in our STEM room.

From the students…This week we would like to introduce our two STEM captains:

AMAZING FUN FACT!!!! - The NASA Rover Perseverance landed in the Jezero Crater on planet Mars last Friday the 18th of February 2021 (while you were at school), after leaving planet Earth on July 30th 2020. It has taken 7 months for the Rover to travel through space and touch down on the surface of planet Mars! Look forward to seeing you all next week!

From Mr. Pattison, Miss Sutherland and Mrs. Young.

MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS

Miss J, Mr K and Mr Trist enjoyed having students back in the music room, even though it was for a shorter week, students enjoyed practising the tuning of the ukulele and guitar. Students will start their first assessment task for the year next week, showing us their knowledge of tuning either the ukulele or guitar. We also got two more of our groups started- Ukulele and Choir, and we are very excited to see these groups practise and put on performances alongside the band and keyboard club. Keep an ear out for our next episode of the Tulliallan Podcast episode!

In the picture above, you can see that the Preps - 2’s have been exploring robotics in STEM using Beebots. The students code the bee shaped robot to touch the different objects on our custom course.

In the picture above, you can see that the Preps - 2’s have been using a free app called QuiverVision where they colour an image and then bring it to life!

Hello everyone, We are really excited to be the Tulliallan STEM captains for 2021. We want to encourage other students to join in STEM activities and enjoy this fun subject. We are both preparing to present our learning with four other students on March 24th at a virtual conference in California called High Tech High deeper Learning that you can see on this link - https://www.deeper-learning.org/deep-dives-at-reengage-dl2021/ or you can scan this QR code

SCHOOLWIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONS

As part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) expectations, students and staff will continue to focus on our school value of Relationships. As a part of building positive relationships we encourage Tulliallan students and staff to use “please, thank you and excuse me”. At school, students will be congratulated and recognised for using their manners and we would like you to also celebrate all the times your children use their manners at home. These are some of the ways you can show your children that you value and recognise their efforts: “Thank-you for saying ‘Excuse me’ when you needed to ask me a question” “I really liked how you said, ‘Thank You’” It is also important to re-direct when expectations are not met. You can do this by saying: “Did you use your manners?” “What could you have said when ….” Let’s work together to make our community the best it can be. Chris Lodewyke Positive School Climate Learning Specialist

THE FIRST AID SCHOOL PROGRAM

St John Ambulance Victoria will visit our school on 1st to the 3rd of March to deliver their free First Aid in Schools Program to our students. The program has taken an innovative approach to ensure all First Aid lessons are a fun and interactive experience for students of all learning capabilities. Trained St John presenters lead students through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of a medical emergency. Our junior students learn about how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping themselves safe, and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students learn about delivering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the things they can do to assist in an emergency.
