PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

REMINDER - CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY SUNDAY 1ST MARCH

Clean Up Australia Day is on Sunday the 1st of March. The Clean Up Australia Day Organisation is celebrating 30 years of making a positive difference to the environment. Tulliallan students and staff will contribute to this on Friday the 28th of February by cleaning up our own school yard.

Come and join myself, Miss Sutherland and the local community group who will be cleaning up the Avenue/Arbourlea Wetland at Cuttsia Grove, Cranbourne North on Sunday at 10am. Please wear gloves or bring tongs to pick up rubbish. See the flyer later on in our newsletter.

STUDENTS SETTLING IN TO SCHOOL ROUTINE

Students are now working in their routines in their Year Level Learning Communities. They experience their Home Group teacher as well as other teachers when they have reading and mathematics groups. We hope they are now in routine at home with their reading each night and various homework tasks as well as accessing the online programs with their usernames and passwords. As part of our Social Skills Program we talk about the Value of the Week and ways to promote positive social behaviours and friendships as well as how to resolve any conflict.

THE VALUE WE ARE FOCUSING ON THIS TERM FROM OUR 4 SCHOOL VALUES IS: RELATIONSHIPS

Each week students will be looking at a related quality or value that supports relationship building.

The Supporting Value of the Week is Tolerance

This week students are concentrating on the value of tolerance. Tolerance is about listening to and accepting others, whilst being respectful towards others who have different opinions or ideas from ourselves.

Congratulations to the students who received a Values Award at assembly on Monday this week for showing us last week’s Supporting Value of consideration.

TUESDAY 10TH MARCH CURRCIULUM DAY – STUDENT FREE DAY

School Council has approved our curriculum and reporting days for the year. On Tuesday 10th March, we will be holding our Curriculum Day to work on Victorian Curriculum and Assessment. Students do not attend on this day.

For future planning, in Term 2 our Curriculum Day is on Tuesday 14th April and is student free. The Student Led Conference Reporting Day is on Wednesday 24th June, student attendance at the conference only is required on this day.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES ACCEPTABLE USE CODES OF COOPERATION AGREEMENTS

At the moment there are over 150 students unable to use technology as we are waiting for signed Digital Acceptable Use Agreements from parents. These went out on COMPASS on the 30th of January and parents need to consent online. The Codes of Cooperation for each year level and specialist subjects were sent home in a hard copy to all students on the 7th of February and were due back by the 14th of February. Students are unable to attend specialist’s lessons until the agreements are signed and returned.

Please contact your teacher or the office if you need help with this or cannot access Compass.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Over the last two weeks, our staff have participated in professional learning in the following:

First Aid training CPR Collaborative Learning School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Occupational Health and Safety

This keeps our staff up to date with current practices. We are all lifelong learners.

BIKES AND SCOOTERS

As we have a number of bikes and scooters of the same brand and colour, we have had a number of students go home with the wrong bike by accident. Can parents please place a name tag or something that will enable students to identify their own bike?

BURFORD WAY PARKING AND YMCA CAR PARK

To keep all students safe, we urge parents not to use Burford Way where there is a dead end street as residents are quite concerned about disrespectful and unsafe behaviour.

We teach our students to exit cars safely and to watch the traffic. However we are still seeing parents dropping off students in the middle of the road.

The YMCA Early Years Learning Centre has informed us that parents are parking in their carpark after school when picking up students from our school. Please do not park in this carpark as it for the use of the EYLC only.

There are now new NO STANDING areas around our school and the Local Laws Officers have been patrolling the area. A reminder that the speed limit around the school in 40km.

Have a wonderful week.

WELL-BEING REPORT

MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB VISIT

On Wednesday, 26th February representatives from the Melbourne Football Club visited Tulliallan Primary School to provide a range of learning experiences about the importance of gratitude and a clinic for some of our Year Four students. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet and learn from members of this elite sporting organisation.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR

As part of Tulliallan Primary School’s holistic approach to student well-being, the school has engaged in professional learning with a Department of Education School Wide Positive Behaviour consultant. A group of teachers from across a range of Year levels has begun the process of learning about this approach to supporting positive behaviour in students and over the coming months will be leading staff development in their understanding of how to promote positive behaviour.

CSEF

Do you hold a current Health Care Card? If so, you may be eligible for the Department of Education’s ‘Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund (CSEF). This fund provides $125 for children to be put towards school camps, sporting activities, swimming programs or excursions. If you have previously submitted an application in prior years and you don’t have any new children starting school this year, you do not need to submit another. Contact the school office for further information about submitting new applications.

ATTENDANCE Congratulations to the following students that won the Attendance Raffle at assembly on Monday:

A reminder that school starts at 8.50am each day. We advise arriving at school five to ten minutes before the beginning of the day. Our Attendance Raffle will happen again on Thursday this week and we hope to see everyone receiving a ticket. It was great to see so many students arriving on time last week. We’re looking forward to seeing how many students are on time this week.

Tips to help improve your child’s attendance:

Talk to your child about school and how important it is. You can ask them how they feel about school, what they liked and if there are any problems

Have a set time to do homework and go to bed

Leave all technology out of their bedroom

Pack their school bag the night before with everything they need

Have a set time for breakfast

Plan to meet up with a friend so they can travel to school together

TULLIALLAN’S RESOURCESMART SCHOOLS JOURNEY

Since opening in 2017, Tulliallan Primary School has been a part of the ResourceSmart Schools program. ResourceSmart Schools is a Victorian Government initiative that supports our school to embed sustainability in everything we do. Tulliallan has taken action at a campus, curriculum and community level to minimise waste, save energy and water and promote biodiversity.

Since 2017, we have received our 1 Star certification for completing the Core Module, 2 Star certification for completing the Waste Module and were successfully certified for our Water and Biodiversity Modules in 2019. We have also submitted for our 3 Star certification.

Since commencing the ResourceSmart Schools program, we have saved $148,143.05 through reducing our resource use. This equates to the following environmental savings:

This year, we will begin to focus on our Energy Module while continuing to consolidate our sustainable practices in other resource areas. We regularly update our CERES Sustainability Hub page with projects, news and learning stories so please feel free to check it out.

We are very excited to continue working together to create a sustainable future for our planet!

HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY UPDATE

Due to the works that are occurring with the new portable building we have decided to postpone the Prep – Year 2 Cross Country Carnival that was scheduled for Friday 6th March 2020 for safety reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience, however, we feel it will be safer and more enjoyable for students, parents and staff if we wait until the works are complete. Thank you for your understanding.

The Year 3 – 6 Carnival will go ahead as planned on Friday 13th of March 2020.
