A public radio news service that will bring popular NPR programs to the city of Coshocton made its debut on 88.3 FM on Friday, May 11 at 2:30pm. WOSU Public Media is providing the service through a radio translator approved by the FCC earlier this year.
We’re very excited to provide this new 24-hour NPR News service for Coshocton at 88.3 FM to go along with our all-day classical music station at 91.1 FM. It’s rare
for any community to have access to both of these quality public radio services, but Coshocton listeners and local foundations have been very supportive of our efforts. The primary coverage area of the signal will extend this new service to about 20,000 residents. Programming will be provided by WOSU’s Columbus station 89.7 FM NPR News including regular NPR programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered, along with Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation, On Point and popular weekend programs such as Car Talk, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me, This American Life and more. Local programming from the WOSU studios includes regular news broadcasts, the radio talk program All
Sides with Ann Fisher, and weekend music from the Bluegrass Ramble. WOSU’s news team has been named the top radio news organization in Ohio for the past two years by the Society of Professional Journalists. Funding for the new service was provided by the Coshocton Foundation, The Montgomery Foundation, and The Simpson Family Foundation with special assistance from former Friends of WOSU Board President and Coshocton resident David L. Baker.

The All-Day NPR News Station
Two New Program Offerings in June on 89.7 NPR News
TED Radio Hour: Hosted by journalist Alison Stewart, TED Radio Hour presents big ideas about modern life from some of today’s most fascinating thinkers. The TED Radio Hour explores ideas: astonishing inventions, fresh approaches to old problems, new ways to teach and learn. The show represents a new partnership between NPR and TED. Each year, TED
hosts conferences that bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less about the best ideas in technology, entertainment, design and more.
TED Radio Hour focuses on a theme each week – such as happiness, the power of crowds, or food – and weaves together TEDTalks centered on the topic with innovative soundscapes and conversations that bring these ideas to life. As host, Stewart talks with the original speakers to probe how ideas make waves and get inside people’s heads, and most importantly, provoke excitement.
Over the course of the season, TED Radio Hour will dive inside humans’ collective heads with shows exploring what makes the brain an amazing idea engine, why collaboration is the new normal, and where creative wellsprings might be found. The show also plans to address major issues confronting society, with talks about rethinking cities and urbanization, and examining food issues with guest chefs Jaime Oliver and Dan Barber.
Alison Stewart hosts the TED Radio Hour. A Peabody Award-winning journalist, Stewart is a familiar voice on NPR having previously served as guest host for Talk of the Nation and Weekend Edition. She has also reported and anchored for ABC News, CBS News, PBS, NBC News, MSNBC and MTV News.
Ask Me Another: Dust off the Britannica, and brush up on those Pop-Up Video reruns. When all else fails, let the tunes clue you in. You’ll need it as of June 2, when 89-7 NPR News brings listeners Ask Me Another, a rambunctious new show from NPR that challenges contestants with an hour of puzzles, word games and trivia.
With a background in comedy, improvisation and storytelling, host Ophira Eisenberg effortlessly incorporates each mystery guest into the show with a cheekiness that disregards formalities and levels the playing field. Featured guests include author/humorist John Hodgman, Tony Award-winner Nikki M. James, and blogger and media personality Meghan McCain. The resulting ambiance resembles the casual intimacy of game night at a friend’s house: one where
scores are forgotten in favor of hilarious gaffes and fortuitous postulations. Each show also features a spontaneous soundtrack from computer programmer-turned-Internet phenomenon Jonathan Coulton.
Ask Me Another’s improvisational mix of banter, brains, and music shines brightly in those funny,
unexpected moments. Eisenberg guides listeners through each episode as she puts questions to a rotating band of puzzle gurus, audience members and “mystery” guests. Visit the show’s Facebook page and follow its Twitter account (@NPRAskMeAnother) to learn more.
As part of this new approach to piloting content, both 89-7 NPR News and NPR hope you’ll tune in and share your feedback regarding these new programs. Listen for TED Radio Hour, Saturday afternoons at 2:00PM and Ask Me Another, Saturday afternoons at 3:00PM, throughout June and July on 89-7 NPR News!
