FISHER CATS RIDE SEVEN RUN FIFTH INNING TO SERIES VICTORY: LJ Talley hit his sixth home run of the year and every Fisher Cat in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit as the Fisher Cats took the series finale in Hartford, 7-4. All seven runs for New Hampshire were pushed across in the fifth inning. After starting pitcher Elvis Luciano left the game in the first inning, the Fisher Cats used five different relievers over the final eight frames en route to securing the first win of the year for Marcus Reyes and first save of the year for Sean Rackoski. VINNY CAPRA NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK: During the Fisher Cats' 4-2 road series win over the Hartford Yard Goats last week at Dunkin' Donuts Park, Capra hit .455 with two home runs, three doubles, two triples, nine RBI, and a blistering 1.584 OPS in six games. Capra is hitting .372 on the season with an OPS of 1.093, and his six home runs on the year is already a career high. His BABIP is an even .500. Capra becomes the second Fisher Cat to pick up a weekly award following Gabriel Moreno, who also picked up the player of the week award following a series with Hartford back in June. UP NEXT: The Fisher Cats and Reading meet for the first time in 2021 this week. Next week, the Fisher Cats will meet Portland for games 23-28 in the season series with the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field. Cavan Biggio hit his seventh home run of the season, but the Red Sox offense proved too strong to overcome in game one of the series. The Blue Jays have formally announced their plans to return home to Toronto beginning on July 30 th . Buffalo hosts Syracuse in Trenton this week, as Vancouver hosts Everett in Hillsboro and Dunedin hosts Lakeland at TD Ballpark. The FCL Jays picked up a doubleheader sweep over the FCL Tigers, winning 10-2 and 15-3. RECENT ROSTER MOVES: No moves the last five days. STARTERS: Maximo Castillo will take the mound for the series opener coming off of one of his best outings as a professional. Last time out, Castillo fanned a season-high eight while allowing three runs on just two hits in a no-decision. His 5.1 innings pitched was his longest start of the year, although he did go six innings in a relief appearance earlier in the season. This month, batters have been held to just .204 against Castillo and his WHIP over the first four appearances in July is 1.13. Castillo is going up against Francisco Morales, a 21-year old from Venezuela in his fourth year of professional baseball. Morales is the reigning Double-A Northeast pitcher of the week, following a six inning, one hit performance against league-leading Portland last week. Previously, Morales threw six no-hit innings in Reading’s July 3 rd combined no-hitter of Erie. Through three starts in July, opponents are hitting just .123 against Morales, as his WHIP has plummeted to 0.88 in July. Wednesday’s Probable Starter The Fisher Cats are expected to turn to Reilly Hovis in the second game of the series on Wednesday night. (HO-viss). Hovis, recently signed by the Blue Jays out of independent ball, made his fourth start for New Hampshire in Hartford last Friday, allowing one unearned run in his five innings in a 5-2 win. (Note that his start in the second game of the July 4 doubleheader isn’t listed in stats since the game was suspended after three innings). Hovis was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round of the 2015 draft (North Carolina). Made 76 appearances (seven starts) in Marlins organization, advancing as far as Double-A Jacksonville in 2018. Was released in March 2019. Was pitching for Gastonia Honey Hunters (Atlantic League) when offered to join Blue Jays.
