ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11th

8:00pm ESTONIA HALL, JEFFCOTT STREET, NORTH ADELAIDE GUEST SPEAKER: Bob Philpot...the well-known W.A. aviculturist

Bob has spent over forty years keeping, breeding, writing and speaking about aviary birds. Like many others Bob started with just one aviary to house some Gouldian finches and a pair of golden pheasants his collection progressed to an extensive and varied variety of birds currently housed in over ninety aviaries.

In the many years of his involvement with aviary birds Bob has kept and bred an extensive range of pheasants, Australian and exotic finches, and Australian and exotic native pigeons. Further success has been with three of Australia’s large softbill species – the bower birds - as well as his current large number of Australian parrots and cockatoos plus six species of Asiatic parakeets.

Bob’s records show that over the years he has kept 95 different species/sub-species, he has bred 82 of those 95. Currently he has 47 of those 95 housed in earthen floor aviaries and 25 small suspended aviaries.

Bob was Vice President and President of the Avicultural society of W.A. and ten years as Chairman and President of the Aviary Bird Association of Australia (ABA).

Our Guest Speaker, “the man with the hat”, has presented topics at three Australian National Conventions as well as in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has also addressed numerous avicultural clubs across Australia.

Bob has written extensively on diverse avicultural subjects, not necessarily adhering to the accepted standard format. Joining the ranks of writers for Talking Birds Australia’s avian newsmagazine in April 2005 he has contributed lengthy articles every month since then with material and

photographs on a wide range of bird, as well as avian management and av ia ry construction.

Bob’s presentation will cover his aviary design and construction methods, bird management techniques and a look at what bird species can be kept with others. He will also touch on avicultural myths and bloopers.

Bob’s presentations are always both humorous and informative.

This will truly be a “Don’t Miss” presentation...make sure you’re there!
