Brown Bag Auction
TVQG’s June Program is a Brown Bag Auction. To participate in this auction simply bring any sewing or quilting items that you no longer need, use, or want to the June 20th General Meeting. Auction Items may include notions, rulers, templates, tools, all types of fabrics, patterns, thread, books, and sewing or quilting equipment. Used items are fine, as long as they are in good working order and in usable condition.
Meeting attendees may purchase auction bid tickets and will be assigned an auction number. The cost of tickets is 5 for a $1.00.
To bid on an item all you need to do is mark your tickets with your auction number then drop a ticket into the brown bag sitting in front of the auction item you would like to bid on.
Members will be responsible for taking home unsold items, but we’re going to have a charity donation box that you may place your unsold items in, should you decide not to take them home with you.
Election Results Elections were held for TVQG Officers at the May General Meeting. Newly elected officers will assume their positions as of July 1st.
The 2017-18 board will consist of, Erin Davis as President, Judy Orlandini as Vice-President, Carol Springer as Secretary and Cindy Calderwood as Treasurer.
When you see any of these ladies during a meeting or event, please take a moment to thank them for their commitment to our guild.
Committee Appointments To ensure your guild runs smoothly, it takes quite a few people to assist with the various activities that it sponsors. Many, if not all of our committees need at least two or more people to run effectively.

If you are considering volunteering for a position, please let any board member or committee chairperson know.
Committee appointments will be announced by the July General Meeting.
The Tualatin Valley Quilt Guild (TVQG) meets at January through November at 7:00pm on the third Tuesday of the month.
The June 2017 meeting will be held the Sherwood Senior Center.
Starting in July 2017, Meetings will be held at the King City Clubhouse.
Guests are welcome and are asked to pay $5.00 at the door.

Contests and Challenges
Row By Row Challenge
Members are continuing to participate in our Row by Row Challenge which will conclude as of our July 18th General Meeting.
UFO Contest
The UFO Contest is well under way, and for the last couple of month during Show and Tell, attendees at General meetings have been able to view quilts members have completed their UFO’s. If bringing in a UFO to Show and
Tell, make sure you get sure you get a drawing entry ticket for each quilt you are presenting.
Half Square Triangle Challenge
Sherry passed around information in March for a Half Square Triangle Quilt Challenge. Details include
Construct a quilt using HST’s
Blocks need to be a combination of light and dark (or contrasting colors)
May use other block types or shapes for block setting or borders
May be any size
Quilter may, at their discretion, keep completed quilt or donate it as a charity or bazaar item.
There will be no charge to enter the challenge.
Quilt must be finished to be presented.
By popular vote, first, second and third place prizes will be awarded.
Prizes will be provided by the guild.
Treasury Update
At the June 6th Board Meeting Julie, our Treasurer let us know TVQG’s bank balance is $4,417.51. She also noted we closely followed the budget and should end the 2016-17 Membership Year $300 to the good.
TVQG Greeters At each TVQG General Meeting, we have a greeter to help with member check-in, support new members, assist guests to orientate themselves, help with displaying Block of the Month submissions and assist quilters during Show and Tell.

Quilts of Valor TVQG’s last Quilts of Valor Sew Day took place on Saturday, June 3rd at Ace Sew & Vac in Newberg. Several members and a guest all joined in to cut and assemble blocks for the next QOV quilt we plan on completing. We’ll send out an email letting you know the time & place for the next meeting.
Winter Bazaar at King City
TVQG will continue their long-standing tradition of selling quilted and hand-crafted items at the King City Winter Bazaar this November. Cindy
Calderwood will be the Committee Chairperson for this event. This will be our main fundraising event.
All members are encouraged to donate their handcrafted items as well as volunteer to spend an hour or so manning the sales table during this two-day event.
Membership For the 2016-2017 Membership Year, we have 53 paid members.
TVQG’s next membership year begins July 1st. Dues will remain at $35.00
A renewal form has been included at the end of this newsletter and also will be available at the June General Meeting check in table.

Charity Quilting News Hello Ladies,
We would like to let everyone know that we have a whole bunch of new fabrics for you to choose from when
making a charity quilt. Just come and visit us any Charity Sewing Day if you need fabric for your charity quilt.
Good Neighbor Center still is not accepting donations of clothing, larger household items or furniture because
of their construction. However, they really need food items, personal grooming products and cleaning
supplies. If you have any of these items to donate, please bring them with you to the next meeting.
And last but not least, due to the long Independence Day weekend the Charity Quilters will not hold a sew
day on July 3rd, but we look forward to seeing you at the Sherwood Center for our next sew day on August 7th.

Charity Quilter’s Sew Day
Charity Quilters Sew Days takes place the first Monday of every month at the Sherwood Senior Center. Sewing start time is 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to join us. If attending, please bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. Note: there will not be a Sew Day on July 3rd due to the Independence Day Holiday.
If you are working on a charity quilt and need a quilt label or to “raid the closet” for fabric, batting or supplies to complete or compliment your quilt, please drop by the Sherwood Center anytime during their Monthly Charity Sew Day.
Good Neighbor Center
The Good Neighbor Center is in need of food, personal grooming supplies, and cleaning products. If you have any of these items on hand to donate, please bring them to the June 20th General Meeting. Our Charity Quilters team will deliver your donations to the Good Neighbor Center for you.
Days for Girls
TVQG has adopted Days for girls as another ongoing charity that it will support. The Days for Girls charity provides lasting hygiene solutions, health education, and income-generation opportunity to girls in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and the rural areas of Brazil.
TVQG Retreats Oregon Gardens Retreat The Oregon Gardens Retreat, a 3-day, 2-night weekend event, will take place March 16 thru 18, 2018. This retreat offers hotel amenities, a quilting room large enough for all quilters to assemble in the same space, nice meals and a pass to tour the gardens. Sue Brim, Ila Peters and Paula Cash are chairing this retreat.
Tilikum Retreat The 10th Annual Tilikum Friendship Retreat is a 4-day, 3-night event in a casual setting. This retreat is scheduled for April 26th through April 29, 2018. All meals and room accommodations are included in the retreat cost. Betty Murphy and Vergie Karlson are the chairpersons for this event.

Block of the Month
Carol presented the Block of the Month, Road to California at the May General Meeting. TVQG members invited to make the Road to California block for our June block of the month. The finished block size is 12” x 12”. It’s suggested that you use sand and sea colors such as off white, tan, blue, teal, etc. Instructions to make this block are available in the members-only section of TVQG’s web page, https://tvqg.wordpress.com/ and are included at the end of this newsletter.
We’ll hold a drawing for the blocks at our June 20th meeting.
Door Prize Each month meeting attendees receive a door prize ticket for coming to the meeting and a second one for wearing their name badge. At the conclusion of the meeting, two or more lucky quilters are chosen to receive a door prize.

Hearts and Flowers
Many of our members have been asking how Marie Godfrey has been doing. So here is an
update...she reached out letting me know that she would welcome visitors and how to find her. So....
here's that information. Marie is at Barbur Vista, 9451 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland OR 97219. She
even gave me some good directions on how to locate the rehab facility...Enter through Taco Time
parking lot and turn right at next parking lot. Wendy's is just to the north on the same side of the
road. My best times are afternoons or evenings, or Tuesday morning. Her cell phone is
503-453-9521, should you want to give her a call. Let's all join in wishing her a speedy recovery.
Sherwood Rotary - Peace Quilt A couple of months ago the Sherwood Rotary reached out to TVQG asking for assistance in completing their Rotary Peace Quilt. They are collecting fabric blocks to be assembled into a Peace-themed quilt. Here‘s some additional information on creating your block for them: 1) To convey your peace message use any colorful materials on your fabric such as ink, photo transfer, applique, paint, or embroidery. 2) Keep your peace message or design centered within a 10” square area of a 12” white fabric block. 3) Also, within the 10” square area, add your name and 2017 in small letters at the bottom right. 4) Return your completed square ASAP, but no later than June 30th to the Sherwood Senior Center 21907 SW Sherwood Blvd between 10am and 5pm Monday through Friday. Or if you like, simply bring your completed square to the June 20th guild meeting give it to Shirley Schultz.

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry is internationally recognized for her award-winning fine art quilts, which have appeared in hundreds of national and international exhibitions, collections, and publications. Her honors include; 100 Best Quilts of the 20th Century, Silver Star (lifetime
achievement) Award, and selection as one of the thirty most influential quiltmakers in the world Caryl has lectured and taught in eleven countries around the world and continues to share her knowledge through her publications and her website. http://www.bryerpatch.com/
Westside Guild Westside Quilters Guild invites you to attend their June 19th meeting at 6:30pm at Newlife Baptist Church, 3440 E. Main St, Hillsboro. OR for a talk on Inspiration and the Creative Process by Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry June. Admission is free.
Mary's River Quilt Guild If you miss the opportunity to see Caryl at the Westside Quilters Guild presentation, she will be at Mary's River Quilt Guild July 22nd at Philomath High School, 2054 Applegate St, Philomath, OR. Doors open at 6:30pm, event time is 7:00pm. The cost to attend is $10 or $8 if guild membership badge or name tag is shown.

Tips and Tricks Thrifty Tip: Paper for Foundation Paper Piecing can cost between $10 and $20 for a pack of 100 sheets. Recently on Amazon, I purchased a 500 sheet pack of Sax Plain White Newsprint Paper - 8 1/2 x 11 inches for $10.18 and it shipped free with my Amazon Prime. Definitely a cost savings!
