See you on the dance floor!

Im not really one to bother too much about State politics - at the end of the day, I think they are all a bunch of morons with fat pay packets, that in most cases they havent really deserved. However, one issue really has shown me how out of touch with the youth market the Western Australian Government truly is.

This issue is the issue of Lockout Laws. This issue is the issue of Lockout Laws.

WhatWhat is it? The WA Parliament is considering, without public consultation mind you, new laws that could further control the way we socialise in pubs and clubs around the city. Currently being debated in Parliament, are laws that would see the WA Government and the Liquor Commission have power to forcibly lock anyone out of and to stop entry to pubs, clubs, bottle-shopsshops and restaurants any time, any where in WA. And as I write this the Legislative Assembly has already passed these. The Government feels that by forcing any venue that sells alcohol to close their doors to patrons at a time they choose, it will help to combat anti-social behavior. *Insert Family Feud incorrect buzzer here*. In the eastern states lockouts have proven ineffective and even trials in WA have shown that there was no cause to have such strict liquor laws in what is already a a retirement village of a state. What it will do is put a number of unruly people all in a centralised area at the same time, leading to even more problems and violence, and what then? Just shut down clubs, pubs and any form of entertainment in this city altogether?Personally, I think money should be spent more on getting to the root of the binge and anti-social behavior problem rather than slapping a bandaid that research has proven wont work.I would love to go into this all more, however space limits me. But what can we do to stop such laws being put into place? WWell, its up to us as civilians and members of the entertainment, music, and urban communities to speak up. The Australian Hotels Association of WA has put together a website which explains this more in depth and has a form to register your support of stopping these laws So before you do anything else, head to www.dontlockmeout.com.au (.) and register your support noyour support now. In other news, I just want to take the time to thank each and every one of you for the support and love you have shown over the past year of The Secrets Out Magazine. We will be back in 2011, bigger and better. But until then, Have a safe and Merry Xmas and a wonderful and prosperousNew Year But until Jan 2011,
