VYoung, talented and a hit with the ladies, life seems pretty good for new to the scene smooth talker Liam Van Tromp. Taking influences from heavy duty arena bands such as Muse combined with his love of past faced punk and “old school” music of the 80’s, pop punk has a new face. TrueSound Maga-zine shares an exclusive interview detaling where his passion comes from and life on the road. Liam and his band, The Nine Lines have just released a new single, Pavements.

What was your first mem-ory of music?- My first prop-er memory of music was my dad saying, “Liam it’s time for bed”. I stayed up and he put on a Peter Ga-briel concert and I loved it to bits. From that moment on music been a massive part of my upbringing. Then obviously, Matt Bellamy came along... that guys got chops. I re-member thinking that that’s quite a cool way to live- playing to hun-dreds of thousands of people - that’s the dream.

What bands have you been involved in?- I drummed in a pop-punk band (Axial View, they’re

fucking good- check em out) but I knew my heart was with The Nine Lines. I just love being the centre of attention really haha. No, no, no not in a dickish way, I just love being the front man. I like playing music that I personally write, I like having creative control. Also being the frontman doesn’t have a bad affect on the girls haha. Yeah life is pretty good. Any profession you can smash a guitar up in and get away with, I’m interested.

What was the first band you fell in love with?- Muse probably. That was the first band that I properly discovered myself when I was little. Speaking of which, I met this boy behind the camera in pri-mary school and we wanted to start a goth band (on the playground it wsa the best idea on the world. We had no idea about music at the time, so we thought My Chemical Romance was a good goth band so went MCR mad. That’s what really helped push me into developing my taste and finding my genre. It was the building block for the future of my music. We were so embarrass-ing, but it was fucking brlliant.

What was it like producing “Pavements”?- We’re recording the video very soon. This is the first band that I really gelled with. When we wrote Pavements, we were like “this fucking sucks”, so after a gig we went home and stayed up until about 03:30 improving the song. I put down those four chords and wrote a load of bullshit lyrics that seemed to work well. TECH SPECSWhat guitar are you currently gig-ging with?- My baby, an all

original ‘75 Mustang. I would make love to this guitar if I could. Noth-ings been replaced onit, all original frets and finish. It’s fucking glorious.

What pedals are you us-ing?- oh wow hah. Ok, I’ve got a classic CryBaby Wah Pedal, into a Boss TU 3 into a Boss DS1 Distor-tion Pedal into an MXR Anologue Chorus, into a Marshall Regenera-tor Deep Phase into an MXR Car-bon Copy Analogue Delay Pedal and to finish I’ve got a Behringer Digital Delay which I use for a hold on like two or three songs. So, as you can see, a lot is on the horizon for this young musician. To see The Nine Lines live, visit www.theninelines.facebook.com or check them out on YouTube, where “Pavements” is now released.
