Quarterback Brandon Silvers gets rid of the ball quickly and accurately, while senior running back Jordan Chunn is a threat both as a rusher and a pass receiver. It’s a balanced, up-tempo offense that can keep oppo- nents off-balance and does not allow pass-rushers much time to create pressure. The Trojans are aggressive and disruptive on the defensive side. Linebacker Sam Lebbie leads a group that ranks third nationally at 10.5 tackles for loss per game. Troy often employs eight players at the line of scrimmage and keeps opponents guessing about which players will actually rush. Penalties and turnover issues have set Troy back in 2017, but the Trojans have dominated their last three Sun Belt encounters with New Mexico State, outscoring the Aggies 145-37 combined. Chunn needs nine more this season to eclipse the Sun Belt Confer- ence record held by UL Lafayette’s Tyrrell Fenroy. >>> Troy has a veteran team in most areas but is also working some new faces into the rotation. Six true freshmen partici- pated in the season-opener against Boise State — three in the defensive secondary. >>> The 2016-17 athletic season was one to remember for Troy fans. The school won a bowl game and captured confer- ence tournament titles in men’s and women’s basketball. Troy was the only FBS-level school to accomplish the feat. >>> Senior quarterback Brandon Silvers has started four straight season- openers for the Trojans. >>> Red zone efficiency plagued New Mexico State last season, especially during its 52-6 loss at Troy. The Aggies racked up 539 yards of offense in the contest but turned the ball over five times, including four giveaways in the red zone. In 2017 NMSU has scored on all of its red- zone chances. Troy’s defense allows foes to score on just 50 percent of their red- zone opportunities. >>> Quarterback Tyler Rogers tied a career high with 57 passes vs. New Mexi- co. He set the mark in Week 1 vs. Arizona State. >>> New Mexico State should be close to full strength vs. Troy. Wideout Greg Hogan (ankle) is expected back after missing last week’s game. Wideout OJ Clark (concussion) and defensive back Jaden Wright are considered doubtful, coach Doug Martin said. AGGIE NOTES SCOUTING THE AGGIES New Mexico State ranks among the nation’s top passing offenses after two weeks, racking up nearly 400 yards per game through the air. Quarterback Tyler Rogers has been effective and efficient, taking advantage of a deep and talented group of receivers. Senior wideout Jaleel Scott has been option No. 1, hauling in 16 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-6 Scott has proven difficult to defend and ranks among the national leaders in several statistical categories. Tailback Larry Rose III hasn’t broken loose but he remains a concern for defenses. The Aggies’ big- gest improvement this season has been its rushing defense, but NMSU has been vulnerable to a quick passing attack. Linebackers Dalton Herrington, Terrill Hanks and Javahn Fergurson have racked up impressive tackle totals, but the secondary figures to be tested against Troy. RICK SCUTERI/ASSOCIATED PRESS DOUG MARTIN NEAL BROWN 3rd season, 15-12 all at Troy

Troy’s offense has been productive if not par-ticularly explosive in 2017. Quarterback Brandon Silvers gets rid of the ball quickly and accurately, while senior running back Jordan Chunn is a threat both as a rusher and a pass receiver. It’s a balanced, up-tempo offense that can keep oppo-nents off-balance and does not allow pass-rushers much time to create pressure.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS

TROJAN NOTES>>> Running back Jordan Chunn has

amassed 40 rushing touchdowns in his career. Chunn needs nine more this season to eclipse the Sun Belt Confer-ence record held by UL Lafayette’s Tyrrell Fenroy.

>>> Troy has a veteran team in most areas but is also working some new faces into the rotation. Six true freshmen partici-pated in the season-opener against Boise State — three in the defensive secondary.

>>> The 2016-17 athletic season was one to remember for Troy fans. The school won a bowl game and captured confer-ence tournament titles in men’s and women’s basketball. Troy was the only FBS-level school to accomplish the feat.

>>> Senior quarterback Brandon Silvers has started four straight season-openers for the Trojans.

>>> Red zone efficiency plagued New Mexico State last season, especially during its 52-6 loss at Troy. The Aggies racked up 539 yards of offense in the contest but turned the ball over five times, including four giveaways in the red zone. In 2017 NMSU has scored on all of its red-zone chances. Troy’s defense allows foes to score on just 50 percent of their red-zone opportunities.

>>> Quarterback Tyler Rogers tied a career high with 57 passes vs. New Mexi-co.

AGGIE NOTES

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

New Mexico State ranks among the nation’s top passing offenses after two weeks, racking up nearly 400 yards per game through the air. The Aggies’ big-gest improvement this season has been its rushing defense, but NMSU has been vulnerable to a quick passing attack. Linebackers Dalton Herrington, Terrill Hanks and Javahn Fergurson have racked up impressive tackle totals, but the secondary figures to be tested against Troy.
