Dedicated Aquaculture Solutions In Australia there are many species of seafood that are now grown and produced in farms. Most if not all of these species start their life in a hatchery. Using Toyesi’s Trident heat pumps during the breeding and grow out stages can really make the difference. Some species can really benefit from continued environmental and temperature control right through the farming stages.

Stages where a heat pumps or chillers can benefit:

Brood Stock tanks

Live food growing tanks

Hatchery system temperature control

Nursery ponds and tanks

Grow-out tanks

Australian Marine & Fresh Water Species Australia has a very broad spectrum of inshore and offshore species that are being farmed. Some of the key species include but not limited to:

Barramundi, Snapper, Bream, Whiting

Trout – Rainbow, Sea, Brown, Lake & Brook etc.

Perch – Golden, Silver, Jade, Estuary

Sea Mullet, Oyster Blennies, Bullrouts

Catfish, Pacific Blue eyes

Eels – Short & Long Finned

Mud Crabs, Redclaw Crayfish

Prawns, Shrimp, yabbies’

Oysters – Pacific, Sydney Rock etc.

Mussels, Pearl Oysters

Australian Bass, Murray Cod, Mulloway

Aquarium Fish – Goldfish,

Sports Fish

Introducing Trident Range of Aquaculture Heater Chillers As the domestic swimming pool market becomes saturated many heat pump manufactures are looking to exploit new markets to keep their sales up. As these pool-based heat pumps enter the aquaculture market they do offer a perceived low cost and value however, most of these systems are not designed with aquaculture in mind. They claim Titanium heat exchangers however; they often do not stand the test of time. Toyesi’s range of Trident Heat Pumps & Chillers are a dedicated range of Aquaculture heater-chillers. Heat Exchangers – why we differ Our refrigerant-to-water heat exchangers are made of full Titanium tube and tube type heat exchanger fully welded or braised that been produced for many years that are specifically made for refrigeration, air conditioning and marine industry applications with known and predictable life time for fresh, chlorinated water or marine salt water conditions. They have easy to silver-braze connections for refrigerant and water connections.

We do not use the pool heat exchanger industry standard of having titanium in plastic shells. Although plastic shell heat exchangers considerably reduce the cost of manufacture of a heat pump, we have found that are prone to premature failure due to excessive pressures, temperatures, heat stress elongation, distortion and the melting of plastic fittings as well as suffering from water turbulent vibration stress crack fracturing causing leaks and failure. For more information, ask us to send you the “Tacit Truth about Heat Exchangers”.

Special Oyster Farmer System One of the major issues in breeding oysters is that spat are suspended in the water and without careful filtration (e.g. 200µm to 670 µm screens) or through poor water care the spat can move into and around any water flow system linked to the hatchery. Oyster Spat and suspended mucus (biofouling) can then accumulate within the heat exchangers of connected heat pumps. Over time this will reduce the efficiency of the heat

pump, as the spat continue to accumulate and potentially grow within the equipment. Kind of like arteries filling with plaque. This can then also increase the chances of spreading POMS (Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome) as well as other bacteria and diseases. Care must be taken to clean the heat exchangers either chemically of manually at least once a breeding cycle to remove any unwanted accumulated biomasses.

Cleanable Heat Exchangers – Help reduce POMS spreading Most heat pump heat exchangers are chemically cleanable however, their layout and design does not allow access for a more manual method of cleaning. Although requiring slightly more investment Toyesi has designed a range of Trident Aquaculture systems that are designed with cleanable heat exchangers in mind for the Oyster and other shellfish clientele in mind.
