Editorial

Dear Subscribers, Authors, and Colleagues:

The special aim of Cell and Tissue Research is to report on comparative and functional investigations into various current aspects of cell biology and microscopic anatomy. The philosophy of our journal is to publish contributions emphasizing a systemic correla- tion between structure and function, based on principles of cellular and molecular biolo- gy. Papers of an integrative nature containing biochemical or physiological data, in addition to information on structure, are therefore particularly welcome.

Articles concerned with vertebrates and invertebrates are of equal importance in Cell and Tissue Research, as established by the original editorial concept of Wilhelm yon M611endorff and Wolfgang Bargmann. Neurobiology and neuroendocrinology have always been major areas in our journal. Recent developments emphasize our interest in the molecular aspects of neuroendocrine and sensory systems.

The editors of Cell and Tissue Research would like to express their warm appreciation to the worldwide group of authors and reviewers who in 1991 contributed their scientific expertise to our journal by means of their articles and careful critiques. The list of reviewers published in the last issue of 1991 acknowledges with gratitude the efforts of numerous distinguished fellow scientists. We are also grateful to the individuals and institutions that have shown continued interest by subscribing to our journal.

For 1992, we are pleased to announce a number of substantial new developments with the aim of maintaining an optimal standard in the field of scientific publication.

In this connection the Board of Cooperating Editors has been expanded. Professors H.-W. Korf (Frankfurt), R.R. Markwald (Milwaukee), D.R. N/issel (Stockholm), J.M. Polak (London), and E.M. Rodriguez (Valdivia) have joined the Board of Cooperating Editors. We extend our most sincere thanks to the Cooperating Editors who have com- pleted their term of editorial duties.
