INTRODUCING TRIALS WEEK 2011 SATURDAY, 24

TH SEPTEMBER – MONDAY, 3

RD OCTOBER 2011

Welcome to the countdown to Trials Week, South Australia 2011.

On behalf of Motorcycling South Australia I would like to extend a personal welcome to all Competitors, Officials, Volunteers, Family and Friends, who will be attending Trials Week 2011. I am confident you will all enjoy the

wonderful surrounds of the Southern Flinders Ranges, the Barossa and Clare Valleys. Make sure you all get out and sample some of the country’s finest food and wine available and I’m sure you will

agree what fantastic locations we have for a world class event. A big thank you must also go out to the Trials Week Organising Committees for all the hard work they will put in over the course of 12 months to help plan, manage and finally stage such an event as this; as always, without

volunteers our chosen sport would struggle to get off the ground, let alone soar to new heights. Best Wishes to all for a safe, rewarding and exciting week of Trials riding, and safe travelling, to and from South

Australia. Cheers, Michael Tucker, Motorcycling SA General Manager

On behalf of the South Australian moto trials community I would like to extend a welcome to one and all to join us in SA in September and October of this year for Trials Week 2011, with the aim to make this the biggest 10 days

of moto trials Australia has yet seen, and I hope this brochure makes planning your trip that bit easier. Although only 2 of our moto trials clubs, the Keyneton MCC and AJS MCC are running events during Trials Week, our other 2 clubs involved with moto trials, the Gawler MCC and the Juventus MCC are also playing a big part in the running of Trials Week 2011. A lot of members from these 4 clubs have already put in many hours of work,

with a heap more to come, to make Trials Week 2011 the success we are all confident it is going to be. I look forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones when you all get here in September.

Cheers, Andrew Warnest, SA Moto Trials Sports Manager

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, 24TH

& 25TH

SEPTEMBER

MUNGEREE, BANGOR

The ‘Gas Gas Motos Australia’ South Australian Moto Trails Championships will kick off Trials Week 2011 on the weekend of September 24th & 25th in the Southern Flinders Ranges at ‘Mungeree’ (GPS -32.936, 138.129), the property, and home, of Brenton and Tyler Hogan, which is situated between Wirrabara and Melrose at Bangor.

(before the eastern end of the Bridle Track).

Try and allow a full day to travel to Mungeree as you travel North from Adelaide and check out some of the small towns that border the Southern Flinders ranges. Port Wakefield, Port Pirie and Port Germain are also on the coastel route, and, if you are in a 4 wheel drive – head up the Bridle Track from the Pt Germain end, well worth the effort, if

only for the views of Spensor Gulf, and you will come out, right at the front gate of Mungeree!

‘Mungeree’ is fast becoming one of South Australia’s premier moto trials properties, offering a variety of terrain from huge 4th gear hill climbs, to huge rocks in creeks lined with enormous gum trees. This property is a pleasure to set sections on as the choice is endless, with all grades easily catered for by Brenton Hogan and his section setters.

This is not only a State Championship, but also a chance to experience the Southern Flinders Ranges and the hospitality of the people from that area. The trial will be centred around the ‘Mungeree’ Homestead, with the Saturday night being a get together in the shearing shed, always a highlight of any trial at the property, with Tyler offering a

delicious roast dinner. This will definitely be a night that will add to the growing legend of the Hogan’s shearing shed!

“THE MID WEEK”

THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S CUP

WEDNESDAY, 28TH

SEPTEMBER

RHINE PARK ROAD, EDEN VALLEY

This years SA Women’s Cup, the first motorcycle event in SA to have women headlining the event, will once again run the same classes as the Sherco Australian Women’s Cup, held each July in the Australian Capital Territory. The idea of Australian ladies ‘legend’, Bev Anderson-Tranter, the Australian Women’s Cup is now the second

most sought after trophy in Australia for women, after the Australian Championship. It is the long term goal of the Keyneton MCC to make this event, the SA Women’s Cup the number 3 event in the country for women.

Now in its third year the SA Women’s Cup has grown from 8 entrants in 2009 to 20 in 2010, and for 2011 it is hoped to double that and have at least 40 women and girls riding this event. The event, also in 2010, received

great backing from Karina Kroehn and her business, Taste Eden Valley, a cellar door for small wineries, all of who are in the Eden Valley region, and it is hoped this relationship continues long into the future.

WOMEN’S CLASSES WILL BE, WITH THEIR SPLIT COLOURS:

EXPERT WOMEN FOR THOSE RIDING B GRADE, TO RIDE YELLOW SPLITS SPORT WOMEN FOR THOSE RIDING C GRADE, TO RIDE BLUE SPLITS

MASTERS WOMEN FOR OVER 40S, TO RIDE BLUE SPLITS NOVICE WOMEN FOR THOSE RIDING CLUBPERSON GRADE, TO RIDE WHITE SPLITS

“THE MID WEEK”

THE DIENER / HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY

WEDNESDAY, 28TH

SEPTEMBER

RHINE PARK ROAD, EDEN VALLEY

The Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy was introduced to reinforce the push of rejuvenating sidecars is SA, and moto trials in general, by Roger Greenhalgh and the AJS Club with their Peter Sparkes Sidecar Trophy. Falling sidecar numbers meant sidecars were slowly dying in SA, and it is through Roger’s efforts that sidecar numbers have once again started to increase. The KMCC wanted to support Roger’s efforts and this event is the result of that. The Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy will be run for A Grade, B Grade and Classic Sidecars and pays tribute to the Keyneton MCC’s greatest Champions in 7 time Australian Sidecar Champions, Trevor Diener & Philip Holmes.

Also in its third year the Diener / Holmes has grown from 4 entries in 2009 to 12 in 2010, and for 2011 it would be hoped to double that and have around 25 outfits all chasing a Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy. 2011 has seen the event attract some great sponsorship from The Eden Valley Hotel, and it is hoped all the teams stop in there after the event to quench a dry throat and say thanks to Aileen and her crew for backing sidecars in SA and Australia.

SIDECAR CLASSES WILL BE, WITH THEIR SPLIT COLOURS: A GRADE WILL RIDE RED/WHITE SPLITS,

B GRADE WILL RIDE WHITE SPLITS CLASSIC SIDECARS WILL HAVE RUN OF SECTION

~~ A ‘Classic’ sidecar shall be defined by the following ~~ twinshock suspension, and/or, no disc brakes, and/or, no watercooling to the motor, and/or, no sidecar brake

CONTACT PERSONS FOR THIS EVENT – COLIN ‘TED’ REDWAY (for details, see previous page)

This event, and the SA Women’s Cup will be run conjunctly and will be fully catered during the day.

NEXT YEAR THE SA WOMEN’S CUP & THE DIENER / HOLMES SIDECAR TROPHY WILL REVERT BACK TO THE NORMAL 2 DAY FORMAT AND WE HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU COME BACK TO SA IN 2012.

AND DON’T FORGET, WE HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN YOU ‘SOLO BLOKES’ EITHER! For all the guys who would like a mid-week ride, all other grades will run as per normal –

“THE MAIN EVENT”

AUSTRALIAN MOTO TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUNDAY & MONDAY, 2ND

& 3RD

OCTOBER

RHINE PARK ROAD, EDEN VALLEY

The 2011 ‘Vine Inn Barossa’ Australian Moto Trials Championships, after twice being run on Menglers Hill (2002 & 2007), returns to another of it’s traditional South Australian ‘homes’ this year in the small township of Eden Valley, right on the edge of the famous wine region of the Barossa Valley, about 1 hour from Adelaide, the states capital,

and about 2 ½ hours travelling from Wirrabara after the SA Championships.

Only 5km after turning left at the Eden Valley Oval & Campground, and across Rhine Park Road (formally Pine Hut Road) from the site of the mid-week SA Women’s Cup and The Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy, (also the 1994 Australian Championships), and using those same high, rocky ridges that run along both properties, this years Championships will offer something for all ability of riders in all classes. Whether it be, long climbs or downhills, fallen trees, huge moss rocks with questionable grip, changing soil types, sometimes in the same section, and even a creek that can be used, depending on rainfall, this will be a Championships not to miss.

Entry through the gates to the Championships will be FREE on both days and spectators will be able to access all

of the sections with ease as there are gullies between the ridges that are easily walkable, as well as some sections that will be easily accessible for the disabled.

Excellent sponsorship packages are once again available for this event, and with the bonus of Tourism SA

supporting the whole of Trials Week 2011 the extra exposure created by this means all who support this event will receive extra benefits not before seen at an Australian Championship in SA.

Contact Ben Zander today for all details (Ben’s contact details are on the next page)

And although we are not returning to Menglers Hill for a third SA run Championship in a row, the organising Club, the Keyneton MCC do welcome back the fabulous Vine Inn Barossa, Hotel & Motel at Nuriootpa as naming rights sponsor for the third straight time. We are lucky here in SA to have a business who is always happy to support moto trials and with that association now reaching nearly 10 years at a national level it is hoped that ALL who travel to Trials Week 2011 will, at some stage, drop into ‘The Vine’, pull up a bar stool, or order a meal, and say

thanks to the wonderful, friendly staff for their continued support!

Word around the traps is that most of the excellent 2007 Championships catering team are re-forming to look after everyone again in 2011, so there will be something on the menu, including hot and cold vegetarian options, for

everybody, as well as hot and cold drinks. They will be open all day, both days of the Championships. “There’s nothing like a famous KMCC bacon & egg sanga, just the thing before that first splat of the day!”

**This year’s Australian Championships may be trialing tiered classes in the following classes, Women, Junior Women and Sidecars. This means that there will be multiple lines (split colours) for all three classes, if run.

Please read your supp regs carefully when entering these classes. This may be done to try and increase the numbers in all three classes at a national level and to encourage those who don’t feel that they could ride an Australian Championship to come along and have an enjoyable ride without

the thought of hurting themselves, or their bikes.
