TRIAD CHEMICAL TIMES

13th Annual Poster Vendor Night (PVN) Draws Huge Crowd

There will be no April Section Meeting as we had two meetings in March. That, coupled with the National ACS Meeting, Spring Re-cess, and the International Home Furnishing Market resulted in the decision to forgo a formal meeting this month.

Please see the Calendar of Events on page 9 for future events.

Busy March for CNC-ACS

The Central NC section of the ACS hosted its 13th Annual Poster Vendor Night on March 26th. Approximately 200 chemists attended what has be-come the section’s largest meeting. 15 vendors came and displayed their latest products and innovations.

Please see pages 2-6 for more infor-mation from Poster Vendor Night.

No April Local Section Meeting

13th Annual Poster Vendor Night Draws a Big Crowd The Central NC section of the ACS hosed its 13th Annual Poster Vendor Night on March 26th. Approximately 200 chemists attended what has become the section’s largest meeting. 15 vendors came and displayed their latest products and innovations. The local section appreciates the financial support of the following companies:

Ace Glass Bruker Instruments Lab Logic ABSciex

Waters Gerstel Quark Glass Resolution Systems

Thermo Instruments Sigma Aldrich JEOL Spectrum Chemicals

Agilent Technologies Fisher Scientific CG Sciences

In the other half of Poster Vendor Night, 45 posters from Industry and Undergraduates and Graduate Students from the Triad were presented. The volunteers from the local section judged the posters and awarded three prizes to the top three posters in both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. The winners in the Undergraduate category were:

WCC Networking Event

On Saturday March 16, women chemists from the Central North Carolina Section and the North Caroli-na Section of the ACS met at Stonefield Cellars. Enologist Robert Wurz discussed winemaking with the group and led a wine tasting. It was informative, fun and provided a great venue for meeting women chemists from the Triad and the Triangle.

The NC Section will host the next joint event, “Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace.” Look for an-nouncements and plan to attend!

Dr. Hazari’s talk a big hit ACS Tour Speaker, Dr Al Hazari gave a presentation on “The Fun but Educational History of Chemistry” at UNC-G on March 28th that was attended by approximately 70 individuals.
