Dear Ivana,Study!! All of the UBSCT’s are based on eighth grade knowledge. So everything you learned way back when is what you will be tested on now. If you have old notes use those to study. You can also go to www.schools.utah.gov/assessment/info.ubsct.aspx. The website has a practice test for each testing field and also the answers to double check your answers.<3 Lancy

My Dearest Yours,Everything that has happened in a past relationship should be used to guide you and your choices now. But you cannot judge a past relationship on one you are going for now. A relationship is a big thing. All I can say is if I was in this situation, I would take it slow and get to know this girl to see if it is really right. Scholarships are financial aid or free money to help you get into the college you want. But free money doesn’t come easy. For a scholarship you need to fill out a lot of information, write essays and get letters of recom-mendation. A good resource for scholarships on the web would be www.fastweb.com. This has many different types of scholarships, ranging from the month of October all the way through March. There are a few scholarships available (October) for the Horatio Alger Scholarship Application. This is for students planning to get a bachelors degree, have financial need, are involved in the community and have a minimum of a 2.0 CPA, and requires an essay. Another one for October is the Coca Cola Scholarship for scholars who are selected for academic achievement, which is great for leaders and achievers. These are

only a few examples of some scholarships available this month. If you would like to know more scholarships and their deadlines, see Mr. Jenkel in the career center.

First time a p p l i c a n t s s h o u l d p r o b a b l y learn, because it is crucial information especially for seniors. Mr. Jenkel says most common scholarships require an essay based on the type of scho la rsh ip you are applying for and one or two letters of recom-mendation,preferablyfrom someone you know at school. require your high school transcripts. “The essays that are required to be written are usually about the person’s life. Some other topics the essays would be about are things such as life changing events or an outstanding life accomplishment,” said Mr. Jenkel. When someone is granted a scholarship, the company funding the scholarship will usually write a check to the college they plan to attend and to the student which earns it. Scholarships are not always found on fast web or other websites. One idea is to ask your parents employer, because their company usually has scholarships for their employee’s children. There are other financial aids you can get instead of a scholarship. Grants are one example, which is money funded by the government. FAFSA is the free application for Federal Student Aid, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. There are also student loans which you have to pay back gradually, or after you graduate and get your degree. Scholarships are very important if you want to attend a college you want and be able to pay for it. Not only depending on your parents for money.

Get ahead in life

Kaitlin Thomson (12) plans to go to USU and is in the process of filling out many scholarships. Her goal she said, “is to fill out ten to twenty scholarships a month.” She also said, “Most people don’t even finish filling out a scholarship application because they lose hope of actually getting it.” There are scholarships for almost everything out there. Kaitlin said, “There are scholarships for the color of your hair, how tall you are, and even just for the number of people in your family.”

Not only is he the talented voice

of many animated film characters, Tom McGrath is also the co-director of the hit

animated film “Madagascar” and the new upcoming sequel “Madagascar 2 Escape to Africa”.

Although the film has not yet been released, there has been plenty of chatter and anticipation inspiring the film and it’s main characters, such as; Alex the lion played by (Ben Stiller), Gloria the sassy hippo as (Jada Pickett Smith), and Marty the zebra (Chris Rock.)

What many do not know, is the co-director is also the voice of courageous penguin general, “Skipper”. Skipper’s character is the leader of the pack along with other penguin pals, skippers job is to bark orders and come up with outlandish plans. McGrath’s’ personality isn’t by any means applicable to his character which sparks a certain interest in the roll. When asked how he felt about being the voice for the penguin skipper, Tom said “I enjoy being the comic relief.” When

interviewing great talent, it’s easy to get tongue tied or become absent minded; however, when speaking with McGrath the exact opposite effect took place. His personality was surprisingly upbeat and very inviting, I found it easy to ask questions and carry out an interesting yet intriguing conversation with him. Questions came naturally and McGrath was extremely open when answering. He even gave away some surprise details about the story line including; Marty the zebra’s identity crisis and if you think that’s weird there is a continuing love story involving hippo and giraffe (Melvin & Gloria). Unlike most sequels, Madagascar 2’s story line developed during production of the first film, and was made the following summer. Another fun fact, is that the entire

cast went to Africa in order to make the film. McGrath said “The beauty of Africa was inspiration enough to shoot the entire film.” The film premiered Sunday, October 26th in Westwood Los Angeles, McGrath said just like the first film he was ecstatic for the premiere he said above all his favorite part about being the voice of the film character in a film is “watching the audience react.” McGrath also exclaimed that he was cast as some of the other small roles such as one of the lemurs and

a spider who is another favorite character. It’s easy to see why this film is so talked about, with its cleverly witty story line and talented characters. The film is scheduled to hit theatres November 7, 2008. Playing Imax in select theatres the film also is rumored a Midnight opening at Jordan Landing and Century 16.
