The Ultimate Gift
The Ultimate Gift is one of the perfect examples of movies that tell us
something about a man’s vocation. In the movie, we realize that vocation is not
something we choose but it is also something that is chosen for us. God calls us into
different vocations but in the end, it is our choice whether to respond or not.
Jason Stevens never even dreamed of being some sort of a philanthropist. He
just wanted the money all for himself. It was a good thing that his late grandfather
knew that he should learn before getting his inheritance. Like the grandfather, God
doesn’t reveal to us right away what our true vocation is. We have to search for it
and slowly find it by learning through our journey towards that one true vocation
that we are born to do.
Thinking about it, I too feel challenged by God and how he reveals my
purpose. As of now, I still don’t know what to do in life but God is slowly revealing it
through persons and situations that seem to have no meaning but eventually takes
shape over time. With that, I can relate to Jason’s confusion about his real gift.
God is quite a complicated person and He doesn’t give things immediately. He
likes to beat around the bush and to slowly let us know our vocation. There are
roadblocks but there are also true friends that will help us get through those
challenges that we couldn’t do alone. All in all, this was a very good movie to relate
to vocation. There are a million things that are more important than money.
