NAME BADGESAs our phlock grows larger (but our memories
don’t!) we’d like to remind everyone to PLEASE wear your name badge at Happy Hours.
It helps us get to know you and promotes interaction and fellowship among members.
There will be “self stick” name tags available at our Welcome Table for guests or members who
have not received their badges. If you forget to wear your name badge, you may be
asked to pay a friendly PHine of $1. Replacement badges may be purchased for $5.
Thanks to Helen DeLaHunt for making and distributing badges to new members.
See you (and your badge!) at Happy Hour!
Happy Hour Collections
Non-perishable food for the Treasure Coast Food
Bank The Golf Committee is
asking club members to donate a box of golf balls
for the upcoming Golf Tournament. You can purchase a box of 15 for around $10 at
Walmart. Toiletries for the homeless
In addition to non-perishable food for the Treasure Coast Food Bank, we’re going to start collecting
those small toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.) that we seem to accumulate from the hotels as we travel. So as the PHlock is flitting around (searching for that lost
shaker of salt?), please stuPH some of those hotel toiletries into the corners of your bag and bring them to Happy Hour. They’ll be donated to the Salvation Army who will
distribute them to those families in need. Used Ink Cartridges and
Cell Phones(Those big cartridges bring in a lot of $$$)
" No remanufactured" ink cartridges please. There are some ink cartridges they will not
accept. Please email Linda [email protected] for verification before you bring them to Happy
Hour.All cell phones are OK.
Members are not expected to donate every time.
Whatever you can do is appreciated. Receive a free Raffle Ticket for any donation item
that you bring. The first raffle prize will go to donors only and
donor tickets will be in all remaining picks.(Limit 5 tickets per member per Happy Hour)

–“FULL MOON ON THE ST. LUCIE”
FUNDRAISERThis event is a fundraiser for the Environmental Studies Center in Martin County and is replacing the Kitchen Tour that was held each year to raise
funds for the ESC. This is going to be a HUGE party at Flagler Park in
downtown Stuart from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. The party will be on the water, under the full moon, and
will feature live bands, silent and live auctions, great food and drink and
plenty of unexpected Florida fun. Tickets are $125 - $200. Of course, if you volunteer to help, you can
attend without purchasing a ticket.Volunteers are needed to help make this “Party
With a Purpose” a success. They need help with decorations and setting up (day of event) and taking
tickets, assisting with the auction, serving food & drinks and selling raffle tickets at
the party. You can choose what you’d like to do. It sounds like a fun time for a great cause!
Karen Stewart will have volunteer forms at the March Happy Hour or contact her at 398-9194 or

A note from Capt’n John…
Hi to Everyone!Just a quick note to say I'm on my back from McMurdo, Antarctica. I have lots of stories for happy hour! Got to say the scientists are not a fun loving bunch of people! I was outside "downtown" (the hospital) and took this picture. Three asked me what I was doing! They just don't understand the "Fins Up!" salute. I should be home around March 12th, so I'll see everyone then! Fins up!Capt'n John
From a Phellow Parrot Head….
http://www.freerice.com/ I just wanted to let you all know that a teaching
colleague of mine just introduced me to a very cool charitable website that I wanted to share with you.
The website is www.freerice.com and it was started in Oct. 2007 by the UN to allow all of us to contribute food
to those in need around the world.
It is a vocabulary test, of sorts, that adjusts with your answers...the more you get right, the harder it gets...and
the more you miss, the easier it gets. So, it can be used with kids as well as adults. For every vocabulary word you get correct, 20 grains of rice are
donated by the sponsors on the website!
There is a lot of information on the website...where they buy the rice, where it is distributed, total donations,
banners that you can click on to add to yourwebsites to direct people to freerice.com., etc. But, I do
have a warning...it is addictive!!!!!!!
Here are the top ten chapters, by reported membership, for the year
2008:
