Josephine County patients needinow have a local choice. Bryana fellowship-trained orthopedichas recently joined Paragon Orth

Pass. He is performing a full range minimally invasive surgeries at TreCommunity Hospital and is on call surgery, especially spine trauma.

I am very impressed with the hsays Dr. Gunnoe. It has well-equiprooms with a skilled staff who haveme enthusiastically.

    Dr. Gunnoe rounds out orthope

the area, as he is the only spine surgCounty. Knee and hip replacement sports-related surgeries are already surgeons in Grants Pass.

We live in the community, andget the surgery they need right hereCounty, says Dr. Gunnoe, adding ttraveling out of the county may havfor an appointment.

spine surgery early in his medical training. As aresident at Loma Linda University Medical Centerin California, he performed more than 200 spinesurgeries and did another 300 cases during his

fellowship in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since heentered practice in 1995,he has been specializingin spine surgery.

Tere are many reasons why Dr. Gunnoehas devoted his careerto spine surgery, but themost important one is his

patients. He recalls one case, a 24-year-old whocrashed on his quad bike and suffered a fractureat the neck. He had misplaced vertebrae and wasbeginning to have compression of the spinal cord.Tere were already signs of paralysis. Dr. Gunnoe was in surgery for ve hours and had to roll thepatient over to work from both the back and thefront of the neck.

It was scary, a bit dicey, he says. I had so

much adrenaline going, but knowing I could

do it right there, in that small hospital, was very gratifying. Te patient did well and had a fullrecovery. And thats the real reason for me to bedoing this. Its the relationships with the patients.

Dr. Gunnoe says he has come to Grants Passbecause he enjoys workingin a smaller hospital withadvanced care where he canbe a part of the community. He was also drawn to thearea for its beauty andgreat outdoor activities. Heespecially enjoys bicycling

and hiking in the mountains. For more information contact Paragon

I am condent that providing thenecessary follow-up with an AABR righthere in our community will be of greatvalue for our families, says McClintock. Of

the 819 infants born at RCH in the pastyear, 45 were recommended for diagnosticevaluation after an AABR. wo of these were conrmed for hearing loss. Tis early detection leads to early intervention, whichleads to optimal outcomes for those whoare affected, McClintock continues, adding, It will also alleviate unnecessary stress and anxiety for new parents; and,

given the current economical challenges, itis of great value for them when they do nothave to travel out of their community forhealthcare services.
