In 1889, William L. Mayo founded East Texas Normal College to provide Northeast Texas residents with opportunities for higher education. The mission of this office is to raise a greater awareness on the importance of higher education among groups and individuals at high schools, community colleges and in the general community with a special focus on Hispanic/Latino students and their community. Office staff advise prospective Hispanic/Latino students and families on the college application process, financing their education and the student support services available to ensure their college success. The office is responsible for coordinating and implementing various outreach activities, new student orientation and educational programs in an effort to enhance the university’s diverse enrollment. The Honors College provides a select group of fifty high-achieving students with a full-ride scholarship package covering tuition, fees, housing, a partial meal plan, and money for books. Students interested in being considered for program must meet or exceed the following requirements:

The University College serves all first-time students to the university. Success coaches are provided to each student. Mayo College, an extension of University College, targets first-time, full-time freshmen students who reside on our campus. Students are grouped with other students who share similar interests, and activities are planned to enhance the campus experience, including, but not limited to, lectures from experts and leadership and service learning opportunities.

The Sam Rayburn Student Center is 92,000 square feet of space dedicated to your needs as a student, and is home to more than 100 student clubs and organizations. It includes: Bookstore; Dining options featuring The Cafe, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Grill 155; Gaming area with Xbox 360s, flat screen TVs, Wii, and several pool tables. RECREATION COLLEGE

Campus Recreation features a state-of-the-art facility, the Jerry D. Morris Recreation Center. This facility offers students an indoor track, multipurpose courts (basketball, volleyball and pickleball), racquetball courts, a 45-foot rock climbing wall, a three-tier weight room that features the latest in cardio equipment, pin select weight machines, free weights, and a multipurpose activity room. There is also an outdoor pool and recreation area featuring a 40-person hot tub with waterfall, outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts and BBQ grills. Campus Recreation also offers a variety of intramural and club sport programs, group fitness classes, aquatic events, and special events throughout the year and is one of the largest employers of students on campus.
