TransferringCourses
This handbook provides information useful to students planning to transfer from Northampton Community College toMuhlenberg College Wescoe School of Continuing Education. We strive to make the transition to Muhlenberg as easy aspossible for each student. If you have questions or need assistance, call the Wescoe School at 484-664-3300.
If you plan to transfer to Muhlenberg, we strongly encourage you to meet with an advisor as early in your studies as possible. Our academic advisors, all former adult students themselves, are here to help you explore your options and identify thecourse of study that best suits your academic and career objectives.
The Wescoe School accepts transfer courses from similarly accredited community colleges and four year colleges/universities. While an official transcript will be required for formal transfer of credits, an unofficial transcript or gradereport will be useful when you have your initial meeting with a Wescoe advisor. This willallow us to provide you with an understanding of which courses will be approved for transfer and outline an individualized pathway to completion of your degree. In addition to previous college coursework, we can also help identify alternative sources for credit such as CLEP testing, military service/training, and Credit for Prior Learning (as recommended by American Council for Education standards).
Muhlenberg College uses the course unit system instead of credit hours. Each transferable three- to five-credit coursecompleted at Northampton Community College is equal to one course unit. Only courses for which a student has earned aC- or better will be considered for transfer. At least half the total courses required for graduation must be completed atMuhlenberg. Similarly, at least half the courses required for any major or minor must be completedat Muhlenberg.Northampton Community College students who are inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and transfer to the Wescoe School areeligible for a $500 scholarship each academic year.
