Read through the statements and look at the pictures on the second page.

Cut out the statements and pictures (or write/draw them) and stick them in the correct part of the table – do they describe steam, diesel or electric trains?

Most modern railways, and new railways that are being built, are now electric rather than steam.

Activity 2: Draw lines on your activity sheet, or write your answers down on a piece of paper, to match the journey times to the type of travel.

Activity 3: Finally, write a short paragraph in your book to explain briefly how trains have changed over time and how modern trains are better than the original steam trains.
