JSTOR’s Mission Today
JSTOR is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to:
- Help the scholarly community discover, use, and build upon a wide range of intellectual content in a trusted digital archive;
- Preserve a record of scholarship for posterity and to advance research and teaching in cost–effective ways;

JSTOR: A New Vision
JSTOR is an internationally collaborative research platform and archive of scholarly content that aims to provide:
- A trusted archive for the preservation of important scholarly material; - Diverse content from around the world;- An online space for the global academic community that will enhance scholarly collaboration

Participating as a Publisher
All content in the archive is scholarly and peer reviewed
An individual (researcher, library, publisher) inquires about journal inclusion in JSTOR
JSTOR contacts researchers/ individuals about the value and or need for a specific journal
Journal is then located via publisher or library and a license agreement is signed
Content is then digitized to be available in the archive

Moving Wall
JSTOR is not a current issues database
There is a standard 3- 5 year Moving Wall
The moving wall is designed to help protect the economic sustainability of our content providers
Agreement with publishers allows participants to directly link to current issues with the publishers
Content is full text searchable in JSTOR but may be available directly with publisher

Digitization Standards and Processes
Digitized more than 26 million pages of printed literature
Complete, clean, high-quality, functional digital replicas of print materials that can be trusted and relied upon by content owners, libraries, and users
• 600 dpi bitonal TIFF 6.0 images for every page • 300 dpi grayscale or color TIFF 6.0 images when bitonal images will
not accurately replicate the original page • Optical Character Resolution (OCR) files containing the full text for
every scanned page and data that allows highlighting of corresponding words on the page image. These files are on average 99.5% accurate1
• Highly accurate descriptive metadata files using an adapted version of the NLM Journal Archiving and Interchange DTD which includes data for reference linking
Beginning to accept digitized and digital-first materials produced by publishers, libraries, museums, and other content owners
