Issues covered in the novel include cocaine dealers’ exploitation of Latin American coffee farmers and poverty compared with excess City wealth. Jack, a poor boy who experiences the lonely, depressing desolation of homelessness, suddenly becomes a giddy member of the super rich. His fictional character is a blend of school boys and girls who have beaten the market professionals in competitions and young dealers in the City. One of the book’s characters is a prison psychiatrist, who delves into the mind of the gambler trader and sociopath.
