    publish a newsletter or a magazine. Theirmain aim is to clarify the unionspolicy orstand on certain principal issues and alsoto pass on information about the unionand its activities.

    Welfare activities: Many unions provide anumber of welfare activities to improvethe quality of the workerslives.

    Disadvantages of Trade Union Sometime trade union influences the union member to

    participate in illogical strike and same types of activities.

    The trade union which influence by the political party, alwayssave the interest of those political party. So, they can notprotect the employeesinterest.

    Sometime it creates unrest in the organization. For this reasonthe industry loses their productivity and increase productioncost.

    Trade union creates the conflict between the employee andemployee or between the union and union.

    Sometime trade union creates pressure for increase profit whichbecomes the economic loss of the organization.

    Union? Bargaining power: trade union is the legal

    organization of a company. Employees jointrade union and increase their power for

    bargaining with the employer. For this reasonthe employees join themselves with a tradeunion.

    Job security: trade union ensures the job

    security of the member employee. If anemployee engages himself with trade union theemployers can not discharge those employeeswithout any reason.

    Union? (Contd.) More income: by collective bargaining with the employer,

    trade union make the environment for getting theovertime payment, gratuity, provident fund, medicalallowances, bonus, festival bonus for the employees. Trade

    union ensures the environment where an employee getsthe overtime payment.

    Implementation of labor laws in proper way: every countryhas some labor law, factory act, industrial law and

    industrial relation. Most of the times the employers dontwant to practice this rule in their organization. Because,they face some economical loss for the practice of thoserule. Trade union creates pressure to the employers forpractice these rules.

    Economic development: trade union createspressure to the employers for increase the wagesand other allowances by which the employeecan develop them economically.

    1. Business Union :They believe in congenialemployee-employer relation, protect theworkers interest by participating incollective bargaining, prefer voluntaryarbitration and conciliation

    2. Uplift Union :they concentrate oneducation, health insurance and benefits,aspire to elevate the moral, intellectual andsocial life of workers, these unions areinterest-conscious of the workers.

    Federations :Industrial unions, either of

    same industry or of the differentindustry may form into an associationin order to improve Trade Union Unity.Such Unions of Unions are calledfederations. During critical situations

    the unions in different industries mayresort to concerted action withoutlosing their individuality. In suchsituation the federations form into anAssociation and such and association

    is called Confederation.Eg; Federation of Indian Railways
