A]er experiencing success through this ini5a5ve,theTPMini5a5vewaskickedoffathandsofMr.Vijay Crishna, Execu5ve Director on 17th Dec2014, declaring its implementa5on all over thePlant.

Successfully passing the “TPM Health Check”auditinDecember2017byCIITPMClubofIndia,the path was set for the team to a`empt theJIPM TPM award. Improvements in differentparameters,achievingOEEfrom57%to85%.i.e.Machinebreakdown reducedby 90%,with thesameresultsinQuality&Cost.Themajorbenefitwasachangeinmindsetfroma“ChaltaHai”toa“NahiChelga”culture.

CII’sTPMClubofIndiaini5atedtheTPMawardinIndiaatthena5onallevelwhichwasequivalenttoJapan’s“JIPMTPMAward”.Crea5ngtheirownawardsystem,theyini5atedthepilotawardwithLawkim.ThecriteriafortheassessmentaremuchmorestringentcomparedtoJIPMassessmentandtheLawkimteamtookthischallengeinaveryshortperiodandworkedhard.

The main objec5ves of this League is Sustainability and Green Building - to disseminateknowledge to op5mise built environment performance, providing a plamorm for capacitydevelopmentwithdetailedinsightsonmethodologyandemerginggreentrends.

To enhance skills and knowledgerelated to a Sustainable BuiltEnvironment, Sharad ChondikarandSumedhKarnikfromLawkimShindewadipar5cipatedinthe4thIGL Pune Chapter Training andRegionalQuiz Compe55on. TheSequen5alAnalyserandSurgeTes5ngmachineplaysaverykeyroleincheckingthequalityofwindingofthewound stator. Thismachine performs a number of tests vital to the process - TheWinding Test, Insula5onResistanceTest,Direc5onofRota5onTest,ACHipotTestandtheImpulseSurgeTest.

Thecurrentsurgemachinesonwhichthesetestsarebeingperformed,areoldandcontainonlyelectroniccardsforthemeasurementofalltheparameters.DuetomonopolyoftheOEMinthisfieldthereisminimalsupportwhenitcomestosparesandservice.Lawkimthereforefaceshugelossesintermsofproduc5onandsparescost.TheMTTRofthemachinesisveryhighandtheMTBFverylow.

Wehadtofirstdeveloptheexper5setorepairthesemachinesin-house.Butduetoobsoletespares,eventhisac5vitywashampered. Duetoverylowreliabilityofthemachine,theMaintenanceEngineerstookupthetaskofdevelopingthemachinein-housetocatertoourneeds.Theobjec5vewastomakethemachinemorereliableandeasytomaintain.

Ourbrainstormingsessions led to thepossibilityof conver5ng theelectroniccardsbasedmachine toaPLC&HMIbasedmachine.Therewereotherbenefitsthatwegainedduetodevelopmentofthismachine:

• In-housecostofdevelopment:Rs.4lakhsasagainstRs.10Lakhsforasimilarnewmachine• TheMTTRofthemachinehasbeenbroughtdownto‘Zero’.• Themachineisnoweasytomaintainasourtechniciansaretrainedintroubleshoo5ngandmaintenanceofthePLCs.Noexpertsarerequiredformaintenanceofthemachine.

A new species Oldenlandia smita-crishnae from Andaman Islands! During the field expedi5on to Andaman & Nicobar Islands in October 2017, NGCPR team discovered a newspecies Oldenlandia smita-crishnae Nandikar & K.C. Kishor (Rubiaceae). This species is known from highestmountainpeakinNorthAndaman,SaddlePeakNa5onalPark.Itisuniqueandcanberecognizedinthefieldbyitslarge,pinkstripedflowers.

Oldenlandiasmita-crishnaehasbeenacceptedandpublishedbyNa5onalHerbariumoftheNetherlandsJournalBlumea. Original plant material (type specimen) has been shared with Kew, London, with a copy to KolkataHerbarium. The ar5cle also revealed other allied taxa of the Hedyo5s-Oldenlandia complex in Andaman &NicobarIslands,where17differentspecieshavebeendiscussedfortheirdistribu5onandtaxonomy.

The species is named a]erMrs. &Mr. Crishna (Smita Godrej Crishna and VijayMohanCrishna),NGCPRDirectors,tohonourtheirpromo5onofplanttaxonomyandconserva5on.

An endangered orchid flowering at NGCPR

An endangered Spicer's Slipper Orchid is in bloom at the NGCPR orchidarium. This orchid is originally from Sikkim Himalaya, where it grows in the wild.

The orchid is of horticultural importance and has been ruthlessly traded from its natural habitat of Sikkim, Myanmar and Bhutan for its beautiful flowers, resulting in decrease in its population. This has led it to be categorized as Endangered (EN) by IUCN.

DearFriends,

WeclosedourQ2for19-20onagoodnotebydeliveringresultsbe`erthanplandespitesomemixedchallenges.SoourH1resultscombinedforQ1andQ2bothontoplineandNOSwerebe`erthanplan.Thisdespitethefactthat during this period we had to provide addi5onal costs towards Subcontrac5ng charges pertaining to thepreviousyeara]erreconcilia5onswerecompletedinQ1.OurAverageNetWorkingcapitalperformancewasalsobe`erthanplan.

Exports,however,havebeenslightlybelowplanascustomersaretaking5metoqualifyourproductsfordifferentexportmarkets.Wearealsointheprocessoffinalisingrequestsfordoingexportsbasedon”VENDORMANAGEDINVENTORYSYSTEM”withsomeofthem.Theunderstandingofadverseimpact,ifany,forthecompanybasedonthissystemisbeingstudiedand5meconsuming.WehopetoputthisinplaceverysoonasthissystemisrequiredofustodoexportswithourcustomersinUSandEurope.Thoughwehaveexceededourtoplinetargetof189croresforH1-thelargercontribu5oncamefromourinternaldivisionGodrejAppliances,andnotsomuchfromourexternalcustomers.ThemarketforAir-condi5onershasn’tpickedupasmuchasplannedbyourcustomers,impac5ngourvolumegrowth,whichotherwisecouldhavebeenmuchhigher.

TheoutlookforH2seemstobemorethanworryingforusduetothefollowingreasons:

• Lower oyakes by end customers due to overall recessionary trends impac5ng our business as well bothOEM’Sandthechannelmarketforgeneralmotorapplica5ons.

• AggressiveswitchovertoBLDCtechnologyexpectedespeciallyfromourinternalcustomer.Investmentshavebeenfinalisedbut thereare lead5mes fordelivery fromsuppliers.Sowhilst therewouldbeupfrontcosts,revenueswouldstartcominginonlyinQ4.

• Our bo`om line is under pressure as we con5nue tomake addi5onal subcontrac5ng arrangements, andthereforeaddi5onalassociatedcosts,tode-risktheIRsitua5onfromalongtermpointofview.

The team is however looking at all aspects carefully, in this transforma5onal year of our business tominimiseimpactandyetcon5nuetoensurethatourcustomersexpecta5onsaremetfully.OureffortsinH2,coupledwiththe results based on the above and with more improved market condi5ons, will truly determine ourperformanceforthisFY.Wearedeterminedasateamtofindsolu5onstominimiseadverse impact inthenextfewmonths.My family and I would like to extend our warmest wishes to each and every one of you and your families on the occasion of Diwali .
