P10 Toyo Ink Group’s Business Segments
The Toyo Ink Group produces a diverse array of items that are an everyday part of your life. You may not be aware of them when you are using them, but they are always just beside you. For example, our pigments are in the TV screen you watch every day. Your smartphone incorporates our adhesives and coating agents. Our marking films are used on the signboards of the banks and supermarkets that you frequent . Our inks are used by the newspapers, magazines and other printed matter you read as well as on the packages of food and daily necessities you find on the shelves of convenience stores. Our logo may not be visible, but our products are there. Having entered a new era, the Toyo Ink Group will follow its slogan of Visible Science for Life and anticipate the goods and services consumers seek. We will support diverse lifestyles around the world with products that offer customer satisfaction on the basis of the technical capabilities that we have been developing for more than a century. Visible Science for Life ―― The vision for the future pursued by the Toyo Ink Group is the coexistence between people and cutting-edge science and technology.
We Are in Your Everyday Life
1
With the concept of “evolving into a globally useful specialty chemical manufacturer,” the Toyo Ink Group has been executing its growth strategies under a holding company system that was established as a new governance structure in April 2011. In the new medium-term management plan to be adopted in April 2014, we will begin working under a new concept, “transformation into a science company,” to operate in even broader domains and in diverse ways. While working mainly in the field of chemicals, we will further expand our business and technical domains with a more advanced philosophy ̶ contributing to the enrichment of life and culture throughout the world through manufacturing ̶ aiming to transform ourselves into a corporate group that serves diverse cultures and people from a global perspective. To this end, we have established three new business domains by looking ahead another ten years and placing even greater emphasis on the viewpoints and values of consumers than before. To make this idea tangible, we have expanded our technology platform, which previously consisted of three stages, into one with five stages in an effort to expand our technology infrastructure to execute product development from a viewpoint that is closer to that of consumers. The Toyo Ink Group aims to be a corporate group that has support from customers and other stakeholders around the world and that operates in harmony with society. As we pursue this course, we hope that we can continue to count on your support and understanding.

Guiding Principles
Toyo Ink Group’s Philosophy System
The Toyo Ink Group’s Corporate Philosophy System, which consists of three
parts — corporate philosophy, corporate policy, and guiding principles — was
established in April 1993.
The system embodies the original roots of the brand of the corporate group
and serves as guidelines that each employee of the Group should always keep in
mind and act on as business professionals. While our corporate philosophy and
corporate policy remains unchanged, our guiding principles — which up until
now has served as the basis for increasing customer satisfaction, employee
satisfaction and society satisfaction — has been revised with the addition of
improving shareholder satisfaction. With this revision, we aim to continually evolve
as a truly global enterprise that provides satisfaction to all of our stakeholders.
People-oriented management
We, the Toyo Ink Group, endeavor to be a company that contributes to the enrichment of life and culture throughout the world.
Contribute to the affluence and culture of people worldwide.
Create lifestyle value for the new age.
Provide advanced technology and quality products and services.
Provide knowledge that enhances customer trust and satisfaction.
Respect the realization of all employees' ambitions.
Act as a responsible corporate citizen in harmony with society and the environment.
Respect shareholders' rights, improve shareholder value and enhance market valuation.

The Toyo Ink Group’s monozukuri business is committed to continuous innovation in
production technology by pursuing higher productivity, reliable quality and stable supply. In
addition, in mass-producing products newly created through our research and development,
we pool the Group’s technical skills and resources to develop manufacturing processes,
enabling us to reproduce product features and added value.
At each of our production bases, the optimal procurement of raw materials, production and
product distribution is conducted through a system that aligns our global supply chain with our
"local production for local consumption” strategy based on locally procured and produced
items. In addition to every Group company working to reinforce its quality assurance system,
we established the Quality Management Committee to ensure uniform quality throughout the
Toyo Ink Group.
Moreover, we strive to improve local developmental activities and enlarge our global R&D
network in order to provide solutions that meet local needs or those of our customers’
products and manufacturing processes. In recent years, we have focused on expanding our
production capacity in emerging markets, such as inland China, Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and
India, while setting up a business structure capable of coping with rising demand in these
fast-growing markets and their neighboring regions.
Manufactur ing that Generates New ValueThe Toyo Ink Group continues to expand its manufacturing activities, operating approximately 50 production bases spanning Asia,
Europe, and North and South America. For over a century, we have routinely honed our technology and deepened our expertise,
paying special attention to monozukuri or manufacturing practices that deliver superior quality and new value.

Aiming to place a greater emphasis on consumers’ viewpoint in our business activities, we have reorganized into three business
domains. The first is Life Science, which contributes to healthy living. The second is Communication Science, which contributes to
richness in mind. And the third is Sustainability Science, which contributes to sustainable society. In each of these domains, we will
define priority areas to continuously develop and offer products matched with changes of the times and market needs.
The technology platforms (TPFs) are indispensable to product research and development. Formerly, there were three such
platforms: Specialty Materials for developing existing materials into specialty materials, Material Processing for adding high
functionality and added value to the specialty materials by means of original processing technologies, and Material Converting for
processing materials to suit advanced and diversified market needs. Now, two new platforms have been added: Module Designing
for reviewing products from a perspective closer to customers to incorporate the findings into development, and Solutions for
creating products that are valuable to users through proposals of esthetic features, design, or a combination of the two.
The Toyo Ink Group will not merely offer materials as a chemical manufacturer, but will contribute to customers and people’s daily
life as a science company by means of more scientific thinking on the basis of the extended TPFs.
Busines s Domain s a nd Tech nolog y Plat for m sThe Toyo Ink Group has adopted a slogan in its new medium-term management plan of SCC-Ⅲ of evolving from a specialty
chemical manufacturer into a science company.
For this purpose, we have defined three business domains and five technology platforms. The laboratories under the direct
control of Toyo Ink SC Holdings and business departments of Group companies around the globe are working together on basic
research and product development.

Toyo Ink Group’s Business SegmentsThe Toyo Ink Group operates its business activities in four separate segments: Colorants and Functional Materials, Polymers and
Coatings, Printing and Information and Packaging Materials business segments.
10
The products covered in this segment consist chiefly of printing inks used in gravure printing, flexographic
printing and screen printing.
Our everyday life is full of nicely printed food packages, cardboards and other different packages. They do not
merely contain products, but must also meet performance requirements that vary with the product. For example,
retort packages for food requires durability to heat during the retort processing. In the field of food packaging and
other flexible packaging in particular, we offer environmentally friendly products using water-based inks for
providing consumers with assured safety. Through our ink sales, we contribute to environmental harmony and
reduced energy and material consumption in our customers’ package production processes.
This segment deals mainly with printing inks used for printing on paper.
Since its foundation, the Toyo Ink Group has been growing together with domestic and overseas printing
markets. The Printing and Information related business is therefore one of the most important businesses of the
Group. It offers not only printing inks but also support for streamlining customers’ printing processes, support
and tools for color management and universal color design and other solutions that contribute to society.
This segment deals mainly with organic pigments, which are at the heart of the Toyo Ink Group’s business.
On the basis of organic pigments as the most important materials for printing inks, it offers materials used in many
different fields. They are produced by combining colorant technologies, organic chemical synthesis technologies and
advanced dispersion technologies. Among others, the nano-level dispersion processing, which is based on an
amalgamation of technologies developed through the manufacture of inks and coatings, has enabled functionally
enhanced color filter materials for liquid crystal displays. The dispersion processing technology is not only used for
organic pigments. Its application has been expanded to carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and other inorganic materials to
support the Group’s business enlargement into new energy sectors.
The products in this segment are resins and other materials added with different functional features. As core
materials in the Toyo Ink Group’s product development, functional resins have been applied to many different
products in response to the changing needs of the times. By combining these functional resins with unique
technologies we have developed over many years, we will continue to create new functions to cultivate new
demand and to open new markets in electronics, energy, health care and other fields to contribute to the
affluence and culture of people around the world.

Auditors. To clarify the separation between management supervisory functions and business execution functions, the Company
has adopted an operating officer system in which the operating officer’s term is for one year. This system has expedited
decision-making and has strengthened the supervision of business execution. Toyo Ink Co., Ltd., Toyochem Co., Ltd., and Toyocolor
Co., Ltd., each of which takes on global operations leadership in their business, hold operating companies’ management meetings
as needed to share management policies and strategies, as well as to discuss business challenges and results. This management
system ensures the legality and appropriateness of decision-making over general management and the effective supervision of
business execution.
The Group has established a governance system that is integrated with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management and
gives thorough consideration to the environment and safety in addition to managing all kinds of risks including risks related to
intellectual property, information security, receivables, and natural disasters using a Group-wide risk management system. The
Group aims to instill awareness of ethics and compliance in all people working for the Group and has established a compliance
system, which includes points of contact for consultation and reporting within and outside the Group. The Internal Audit
Department conducts internal audits to check that all of these systems are functioning properly.
