Spring is in the air - finally! People are talking about taking off the snow tires and putting summers back on their cars.

The Solosprint Open House was held at CSC, as in the past, on Sunday, April 6. Some 50 odd people signed up for the series. The clubs that put on the Solosprint events were there as usual. Participants need to be members of a CASC-OR affiliated club, so the opportunity is there to get new members. We collected a few new members as well as renewals.

The day before, the CASC Presidents meeting was held. Representation was better than last year. Among the items presented was a report from the ASN Advisory Board that included information on insurance and the requirements for affiliation. There was discussion on minor waivers, required for participants less than 18 and the need for both parents' signatures. CASC will be getting a clarification of the requirements. There is also specific wording for entry forms that I will pass on to organizers. I will be pleased to supply more specifics at the next TAC meeting.

Later that day, Saturday, was the Ice Race Banquet. 12 TAC members received awards, that is better than I predicted last month.

Andrew Vernon, class SS4 (street studs awd) – 1st.

Rodney Schmelter, class 1 (rubber rwd) - 3rd and class 11 (second driver class) – 2nd.Dan Douglas, class 2 (rubber fwd, short wheelbase) - 4th

Heather Peckham-Hughes, class 2 - 6th

David Lynch, class 3 (rubber fwd, long wheelbase) - 8th

Robert Lynch, class 3 - 10th

There were a lot of entries in classes 2, 3 and 13

Bill Vickery, class 4 ( rubber awd) - 2nd. Bill also is Rookie of the Year.

Peter Cifford, class 4 - 3rd

Tammy Douglas, class 12 (second driver in class 2 vehicles) – 4th. Tammy is also Rookie of the Year second driver, Female Rookie of the Year and also got an award for Best Prepared Car.

Paul Moore, class 12 - 5th

Gary Vernon, class 13 (second driver in class 3 vehicles) - 3rd

Graham Tullet, class 14 ( second driver in class 4 vehicles) - 2nd

Earlier the same day, there was the Spring Runoff rally, 3rd event in the ORRC rally calendar. Paul will have info at the meeting.

Speaking of rallying, the first event of the TAC Ralliette series is on Wednesday April 23. The flyer is in this issue. Participating in these events is an excellent way to get involved with rallying. I am looking for workers, please let me know if you can help.At the May meeting, not this month, we will have Jo DeMarco from Dyno services by Dragonwerks as a speaker. He has a presentation on engine management systems that includes the history and development of engine management control, carburettors, fuel injection to full computer control systems. He will also cover tuning strategies and working with a chassis dynamometer. So mark your calendar for the May meeting to see him.

Of course the regular April meeting is on the 16th. I hope to see you then.

Dietmar

The guile of President Mosley

Max Mosley now has unfettered control of Formula One as president of the FIA.Up to 31st December 2007 Formula One was a democracy – not any more

The governance of Formula One has been under scrutiny since last summer when the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile imposed a world record sporting fine of US$100 million on the McLaren Mercedes team and excluded it from the world championship. It made the sport focus on the immense power that has been vested in one man and his ability to virtually do what he likes. But how did Max Mosley achieve it and persuade people to hand him so much power in a major profile of the president.

Max Mosley is arguably world sport's top administrator. But has megalomania set in at the FIA

contains some serious allegations, we decided to refer you instead, to the magazine website directly. This article does not necessarily reflect the views of the Toronto Autosport
