Norwegian based companies in the oil and gas sector have a well established reputation and a significant market share as providers of services, equipment and systems to topsides and substructures for fixed and floating production platforms and drilling rigs. In this catalogue we present the cluster of INTSOK partners that provide products and services towards topsides in general, as well as for the various types of floating support structures.

TOPSIDESGenerally topsides comprises of production systems, supporting systems and accom-modation for personnel. Its content is derived from the services it delivers in exploiting an oil and/or gas field. E.g. separate oil, gas and water, deliver power and other utilities or house personnel.

Its support structure; e.g. jacket, semisubmersible, or a floating monohull vessel, is designed to support the Topsides in the marine environment and in some cases provide storage of the produced liquids. In the early years of offshore developments, jackets were normally used to support the topsides. However for water depths exceeding 150-200 meters, floating solutions are superior to fixed installations.

FLOATING SUPPORT STRUCTURESFloating support structures have been deployed in a number of specific offshore services both to find and develop oil & gas fields. Examples are mobile drilling rigs, service vessels and oil production platforms. While the FPSO has been the preferred floating production solution in most of the world, other solutions have been applied in the US GoM, particularly Tension Leg Platforms (TLPs) and SPARs. The FPSO is the dominant type of floating production unit and constitutes for around 70% of the market in 2010. The FPSOs are particularly effective in remote and/or deepwater locations without a pipelines infrastructure. In harsh environments the risers are connected to the vessel, through a turret, which allows the vessel to weather-wane. Alternatively, in benign environments like West Africa the FPSO can be spread moored and risers connected to the vessel at the side.

The selection of the floating support structure depends on the following criteria:• Dry or wet trees• Storage requirement• Available pipeline infrastructure• Operator familiarity• Field life• Cost• Area/field development plan (hub, tie-backs etc)

Enhanced Drilling

Enhanced Drilling delivers subsea systems and services that transport fluids and solids as well as manage wellbore pressures. PRODUCTSEC-Drill® is a Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) system based on a Dual Gradient Drilling (DGD) method. It can be used in both shallow and deep water (including depleted wells), either from a jack-up, platform or a floating drilling vessel. The system reduces BHP (Bottom Hole Pressure) by reducing the riser level in a controlled manner. This way, Equivalent Circulating Density effect (ECD) can be drastically reduced - invaluable when drilling narrow pressure windows, especially in the reservoir section. Instant kick detection capability is also available.

RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery is a risk-reduction system that has enabled operators to drill better, more stable top holes safely, quickly and with less environmental impact since 2003. The system, which has been used on more than 220 wells worldwide, is an innovative way to return mud and cuttings to the rig before the marine riser is run, without discharge to the seabed. It gives primary well control, weighted mud is in the hole at all times, plus any gains or mud losses can be seen early.

MPC Managed Pressure Cementing enables the successful isolation of high-pressure, uncon-solidated water/gas bearing formations with high-performance cement. The wellbore pressure can be managed so that unwanted fluid exchanges between the wellbore and casing annulus are avoided during circulation of cement slurry and its setting time. With MPC, precise control over the pressure and return flow is possible to keep the wellbore pressure profile within the drilling pressure window.

The CTS Cuttings Transportation System transports cuttings away from the well area during top-hole drilling on semi-submersible rigs and during clean-up operations on the seabed. It has been used on more than 400 wells since its introduction in 1997.

Sevan Marine ASA is listed on Oslo Børs (ticker SEVAN) and has developed a cylinder shaped floater, suitable for all offshore environments. Thermtech

Direct Thermal Desorption units - TMD® and TCC®

Thermtech is the technology owner of the patented TMD® and TCC® processes used to treat the contaminated solids, like the oily waste produced during drilling, production and refinery activities. The TMD® and the TCC® convert kinetic energy to thermal energy by creating friction in the waste.

Across the world numerous oil companies require the use of the Direct Thermal Desorption Units for the treatment of their waste. Thermtech supply this technology to its customers, who in turn provide services to the Exploration and Production companies. The most important property of the TMD® and TCC® is their ability to recover every component of the waste, with the same qualities of the original components. At the end of the treatment, the oil can be re-used and the clean solids (down to 0,01% TOC) can be used in different applications, land filled or discharged to sea. The design of a compact, mobile TCC® unit is among Thermtech recent developments. With this solution, instead of transporting the waste to the

location of the treatment unit, the mobile unit is transported to the waste. Aside from the obvious logistical savings that such a mobile unit can bring, its use can also make the whole process much safer by reducing the waste movements, which in itself are dangerous, unhealthy and environmentally negative. This very compact unit can be transported on trailers, supply boats and cranes, and still offers the same technological advantages, capacities and parameters that have made the TCC® process so successful.As of December 2014, more than 55 TCC® based units, designed and build by Thermtech and by its license holders, can be found in operation across the globe, located on land, platforms and rigs both onshore and offshore.
