Topic week 2 Iron Age.notebook
After the Bronze Age came the Iron Age. It was called the Iron Age because the main material used was iron rather than bronze or stone. Iron was used for tools and weapons.
Because Iron was cheaper and easier to produce lots of tribes had iron weapons, this meant that the Iron Age was a rather violent period in history.

Iron was different to bronze.
Rather than melting it and putting it into moulds, iron is heated and hammered into shape. This is called smithing.
It led to better ploughs, armour and coins.

Society changed a lot and people lived in tribes that were often at war with each other.
They built hill forts for themselves where they could live and farm and these hill forts provided protection and a good lookout place for any enemy tribes approaching.
