Interchangeable Tool Top Plate

The interchangeable tool top plate can be set with tooling for a range of jobs and then stored away, along with the part program, for future job runs. The top plate features a dovetail configuration which provides maximum structual rigidity and clamping of tools during machining operations. All tool holders also feature a dovetail clampling configuration which is far superior to conventional T-bolt clamping methods. This unique clamping method allows tools to be added or removed without disturbing any other tools on the plate.

The top plate can be removed and replaced with another top plate in less than one minute with a repeatability of within .0002" (.005mm).

The top plate features a built-in scale in both inch and metric to help the set-up person quickly position the tool holders.

Machining performed when the Thru-Spindle Coolant option is active can provide cost savings through reduced cycle time since chips are automatically flushed from the spindle and a cleaner gripping surface is available to receive each workpiece.

When the machine's coolant system is active, coolant can be directed from inside the spindle to clean chips from the spindle and workholing device gripping surface(s}.

This option is available only on the CONQUEST GT27/GT27SP Autoload machines.

The Air Blast System on CONQUEST GT27/GT27SP lathes can provide cost reduction through reduced cycle time because chips are removed from the workholding device and a cleaner gripping surface is possible to receive each part.

The Air Blast System carries a force of air through the headwall and/or from the cross slide by the standard machine air supply system. When the machine's air system is active, an air blast can efficiently clean chips from the workholding device.

An adjustable air tube is mounted by a flange on the headwall. A set screw in the flange allows the tube to be positioned closer to or away from the headwall and to be rotated for an optimum blast angle to clean the area. Standard brass elbow fittings from a 'T' fitting and flexible copper tubing directs air at any position desired by the operator. The thru-headwall air line is added to the existing air system and is activated by a solenoid valve.

All lines required to use the Air Blast System will be installed atthe time the machine order is placed, or they can be installed in the field.

The Filtermist mist collector is recommended as a quiet and efficient system to quickly filter and eliminate oil mist and dry smoke from the machine enclosure, return collected coolant to the machine, and pass filtered air into the shop. The mist collector consists of a self-cleaning filtration unit and after-filter. The 1112 hp (1 kW) electric drive motor is totally enclosed with sealed bearings, providing 600 cfm throughput.

To facilitate easy installation to the top of the machine, the machine enclosure features factory-drilled holes for the four anti-vibration shock-mounts, ducting and drain tube.

It is the customer's responsibility to provide a power supply to this option separate from the machine's power supply. Voltage must be specified at the time of order (voltage may be different than the machine voltage).

Tramp Oil Recovery System

The best way to realize minimal downtime, increased productivity and increased profits is to adapt an automatic tramp oil recovery system to the CONQUEST GT27/GT27SP and Autoload Lathes.

Offered directly from Hardinge Inc., the Tramp Champ™ principle of operation is simplegravity and coalescence. Unless chemically emulsified, oil and water do not mix. They will, however, separate from each other under gravity.

The time and the expense to change and dispose of coolants can be substantially reduced with the Tramp Champ from Porter Systems. The Tramp Champ allows you to concentrate on producing precision parts instead of changing contaminated coolants.

The Tramp Champ comes complete with floating pickup skimmer, custom coolant tank cover, and suction and return hoses. Electric- and air-operated models are offered. See brochure #1304 for detailed information on this time- and money-saving product from Hardinge.

Fluctuations in coolant temperature can have an adverse affect on part tolerances. The energy required in heavy metal removal operations is dissipated in the form of heat-a majority of which is transferred to the cutting area by the recirculating coolant. Coolant chillers efficiently remove unwanted heat from the coolant reservoir that could otherwise lead to temperature swings and undesired part size variations.

The open-loop coolant chillers manufactured by Turmoil, Inc.; compact, stand-alone refrigeration systems that pump hot coolant out of the machine's coolant tank and return the chilled coolant to the tank through flexible hoses. A thermostat in the chiller senses the temperature to automatically control the refrigerating effect, maintaining a constant coolant temperature.

Features: •Complete thermal control of recirculating coolant to ensure precision machining • Cleanable aluminum air filter on condenser inlet •Self priming gear pump to pump coolant at constant flow and pressure • Lifetime lubricated hermetic compressor with controls for automatic operation

Benefits: •Greatly enhanced part size control • Reduced bacterial growth, providing longer coolant life

Hardinge recommends that an application review be made prior to ordering a chiller. Typical guidelines for using a chiller: when temperatures exceed 4°F above ambient temperature for highprecision machining; 8°F above for general precision work. A power source seperate from the machine is required.
