To access this application, tap the icon on the HOME Menu, and
then tap Open and read the contentsof each section carefully. When youare finished, press to returnto the HOME Menu.

To avoid fatigue and discomfortwhen using the stylus, do not grip ittightly or press it hard against the

4 Parental Controls
You can restrict use of the followingfeatures by adjusting the options inParental Controls.♦ Refer to your Operations Manual for

● Sharing Images/Audio/Video/LongText Data
Restricts the exchange of songlyrics and messages with otherusers via Local Play.
● Online InteractionRestricts the sending/receiving ofMii characters and items viaSpotPass.
● StreetPassRestricts the sending/receiving ofMii characters via StreetPass.
♦ Access to this game (as well as othergames) can also be restricted throughthe Software Rating item in ParentalControls.
5 Introduction
Tomodachi Life™ is a game whereyou can make Mii characters thatlook like your family, friends, andother people and watch over themas they interact on a tiny island inthe ocean. You can interact with theMii characters, solve their problems,and enjoy watching them go abouttheir daily activities. The Miicharacters need care and attentionto thrive. But what kinds of thingsmight happen next? You'll just haveto find out!
6 Basic Controls
You can use yourNintendo 3DSsystem to lookaround when youdo things like givinga Mii character a new interior.Please follow the instructionsaccordingly.

This software uses the stylus formost controls. Try tapping theTouch Screen in various places, andsee what it does. You may berequired to use certain buttons forsome parts of the game.
When playing this game, youmay have to move theNintendo 3DS system around.Make sure you have enoughroom before playing, and holdthe system firmly with bothhands while playing. Do notmove the system with excessiveforce, as this could causeinj uries, damage to theproduct, or damage to nearbyobjects.
7 Playing for the First Time
♦ The game may return tonormal after one or twodays.
● You cannot collect anydonation funds.
● Items stocked in shops maynot be renewed.
● The night market at theamusement park may nottake place.
Time on the island flowsaccordingly with the time set onthe Nintendo 3DS system. Ifyou change the time or playwith the software on a differentsystem, the following types ofproblems may occur:

Follow the on-screen instructions toset the date and time, and then giveyour island a name.
♦ Although you can changeyour island's name, you areunable to change theaddress.
Your island'saddress isautomaticallycreated withyour game'sdata. This address can bedisplayed to other playersthrough features such asStreetPass (page 13) orQR Code® patterns (page 11).

8 Making Mii Characters
Follow the instructions to import aMii character easily from Mii Makerbefore setting a profile.
Transfer from Mii Maker
Creating a Mii character in this gameworks j ust the same as in theMii Maker™ application. However,you can go further by fil l ing in aprofile, making sure the name ispronounced correctly, adding avoice, and setting a personality withsome simple Touch Screen controls.Just follow the instructions and theyellow icons on the Touch Screen.Filling in the profile can make thingsmore fun later.♦ For more information on basic Mii
character creation, please consultthe Mii Maker electronic manual.
Start from Scratch/Photo
♦ Please refer to the OperationsManual for your system for moreinformation about creating Miicharacters in Mii Maker and usingthem in games.
You can have up to 100 Miis livingon your island.
Transfer from theWii U Console
You can even transfer Mii charactersfrom Mii Maker on Wii U™ to yourNintendo 3DS system. Just followthe instructions in Mii Maker on bothyour Nintendo 3DS system andWii U. Then follow the same stepsas when transferring Mii charactersinto Tomodachi Life from Mii Maker.
9 Saving and Deleting Data
♦ You can also automatically accessthe Nintendo 3DS Image Sharewebsite in-game (after it isunlocked).
You can savephotos taken in-game to the SDcard and then viewthem in theNintendo 3DS Camera™ application.By accessing the Internet browseron your Nintendo 3DS system'sHOME Menu, you can also easilypost your in-game photos on social-networking sites by using theNintendo 3DS Image Share website.
Saving Photos
Tap Save or press on themap screen (page 10) to save yourprogress. This game does not saveautomatically, so don't forget tosave whenever you have beenplaying for a while or want to take abreak.

Your island uses only one save file.
● Data can be lost due to useraction, such as repeatedlypowering off and on thesystem or removing a GameCard or SD Card whilesaving. Data loss may alsobe caused by poorconnectivity due to dirt ordust in the system's ports.Please be aware that inthese cases data cannot berestored.
♦ Be careful, because deleted datacannot be recovered.
♦ QR Code patterns of Miicharacters and pictures saved onthe SD card will not be deleted.
After the Nintendo 3DS logo hasbeen displayed when starting thesoftware, press and hold , , ,and at the same time until thetitle screen is displayed to delete allsave data.

You can dothings like viewisland statisticsor swapapartmentpositions here.Access the officeby tapping onthe front doors.
Tap a window, andthen tap Enter to visitthat apartment. Thethought bubbles showif an islander has aproblem for you to help with. Asyour island population grows, so toodoes the Mii Apartments building.Press or tap the Touch Screennear the top to see the islandersliving in apartments higher up.

Solving problems and givingpresents increases a Mii character'shappiness. When a Mii levels upbecause his or her happiness meteris full, you can give a present, suchas a song, gift, interior, or phrase.The Mii characters on the islanddon't have problems all the time. Ifeverything is going fine, why nottake a break and check in on them

♦ QR Code patterns you createinclude your island's name, otherMii profile information such as thepersonality and voice, and the Miicharacter's main catchphrase andoutfit currently being worn, butnot relationships, other clothing,or items.
You can create Mii QR Codepatterns or scan them. QR Codepatterns you create are saved to theSD card.

♦ Select a Mii received fromanother player and hold forseveral seconds to block him orher.
You can see all of your islanders ina list and edit their profiles.

Create new Mii characters orconnect with other Tomodachi Lifeplayers (page 12) at Town Hall.

Shops and other buildings pop upon your island as you make progressin the game.
Travelers andcertain import itemscan make their wayto your island viaStreetPass(page 13).
The Port
♦ Islanders can each have individuallyrics for songs when they singsolo.
You can touch thesong title to edit it ortouch the lyrics andthen tap Edit to editthem. If you save yourchanges, you won't be able tochange them back to the originallyrics later.
Changing the Lyrics
Islanders love singing onstage! Theycan sing solos or in groups, and youcan even change the lyrics!
The Concert Hall
You can change a number ofsettings, including the volume andyour island's name, or activateStreetPass and SpotPass.
♦ Please refer to the OperationsManual for your system for moreinformation about Play Coins.
Travelers can put up atent and stayovernight on yourisland. You canexchange Play Coinswith them for special food items.
The Campground
12 Mii and Item Exchange
If you select this while the otherplayer is searching for partners, itwill connect automatically. Thenfollow the on-screen instructions toexchange what you want.
Wait for Partners
Both players should visit their TownHall, tap Send/Receive, tapExchange Miis or Other Items, andthen select Yes.

You Will Need:
This software supports multiplayergames via wireless communication.Each player must have a copy of thesoftware.
Exchanging Items(Local Play)
♦ Please refer to the Mii Makerelectronic manual for moreinformation on basic Miifeatures.
● Profile information, clothing,and apartment interiors aretransferred with the Mii, butbirth year and relationshipsare lost.
● You can prevent anotheruser from editing a Mii'sappearance or nickname bysetting Copying to Don'tAllow in the profile's OtherSettings tab (the other usercan stil l copy the Mii to MiiMaker, though).
● If you don't allow otherusers to copy a Mii, they willbe unable to edit thenickname.
Exchanged Mii Characters
You will connect with thatplayer. Follow the on-screeninstructions to exchange whatyou want.
Any waiting players' island'snames are displayed. Tap oneto select it.
Search for Partners
13 Other Islands
♦ To communicate using thisfeature, all players must activateStreetPass for this software.
♦ The name of your island, Miicharacters' nicknames, andmessages you send to otherislands via travelers overStreetPass can be seen by otherplayers.
♦ You can also connect with otherplayers using StreetPass relaypoints. Please refer to the officialNintendo website for furtherinformation.
♦ Hold for several seconds whiletouching an island in the IslandRanking board to delete it fromthe list.
This software uses StreetPass (localwireless communication) forexchanging travelers and importingitems from other islands. Itemsreceived via StreetPass are shown inthe import-wear shop and, ifpurchased, in your collection atTown Hall with .
Exchanging Goods andTravelers(StreetPass)
♦ If you choose not to activateStreetPass, you can do so laterat Town Hall. Tap Options,choose StreetPass/SpotPass, andthen set StreetPass to ON.
♦ This will also unlock SpotPass(page 14).
To activate StreetPass,fulfill the requirementsto unlock the hat shopand enter it from themap screen. Uponexiting the hat shop, you will beasked to activate StreetPass.

Travelers
♦ It is not possible to makevisiting travelers intopermanent residents on yourisland.
When a baby is born on theisland and grows up, you canchoose to make him or her atraveler. Travelers send backletters from the islands theyvisit and might even come backto visit once in a while(page 14).
Guest Book
The guest book at the portcontains data of islands youhave exchanged with andtravelers who have visited yourisland.♦ Select an island from the list
and hold for severalseconds to delete its infofrom the list.
♦ Select a traveler from the listand hold for severalseconds to add the playerwho created it to theblocked-user list. You will nolonger receive content fromthat player on your island.
♦ Refer to your Operations Manualfor information on how to set upParental Controls.
You can disable StreetPassfunctionality via Parental Controls.
♦ You can also deactivateStreetPass in-game at Town Hall.Tap Options, choose StreetPass/SpotPass, and then setStreetPass to OFF.
To deactivate StreetPass, open System Settings, select DataManagement, and then select StreetPass Management. Tap theicon for this software title, and thenselect Deactivate StreetPass.

14 Import Items and Letters
♦ While receiving letters orwatching events involvingtravelers who have returned toyour island, hold for severalseconds to put the visited playeron the blocked-user list.
♦ You will be unable to useSpotPass if you swap the systemor Game Card or format thesystem memory.
♦ Data received through SpotPassis saved on SD cards. As a result,it is recommended that you keepan SD card inserted in yoursystem at all times.
♦ You can disable StreetPassfunctionality via Parental Controls.
This software supports receivingimport items, traveler Mii characters,and travelers' letters via an Internetconnection. If you choose toactivate the SpotPass feature, evenwhen you're not playing the game,you will automatically receive importitems and travelers' letters, andtravelers may come back to yourisland for a short time if your systemis in Sleep Mode and connected tothe Internet. Items received viaSpotPass are shown in yourcollection at Town Hall (after beingpurchased from the import-wearshop) with .

Go to Town Hall, and then tapOptions. Tap StreetPass/SpotPass,and then set SpotPass to OFF.
Deactivating SpotPass
♦ If you choose not to activateSpotPass, you can do so later atTown Hall. Tap Options, chooseStreetPass/SpotPass, and thenset SpotPass to ON.
You will be asked toactivate SpotPass afterunlocking the hat shop(page 13).
● Accept the Nintendo 3DS ServiceUser Agreement and PrivacyPolicy.
● Set up an Internet connection.● Insert an SD card into the
Nintendo 3DS system.
