St. Therese Prayer for Vocations
St. Therese, Little Flower, you are “love in the heart of the Church.” You dedicated your life as a Carmelite Nun for good Priests to serve God’s people.
From your privileged place in God’s Heart, I ask you to stir up responsive hearts in young men to follow Jesus as good and holy Priests and Religious. Bless our Church with loyal servants of the Gospel.
Renew our Church in love by igniting the love of the young men Jesus calls. We need your help, intercession, and intervention today, Beloved Patroness of Priests. Amen.
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER OMAR
Dear Family:
Today’s Gospel tells us that the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, is like a pearl of great price; it is a treasure for us to find and enjoy. However, for as much as we called ourselves believers and cling to our faith, there is always a sense of doubt when we face conflict and the reality of our life and our human frailty. We all lack trust, trust in the love of our God, his mercy and compassion. Our patroness saint, Thérèse of Lisieux, said that our difficulty with trusting in God’s love is centered on our poor understanding of our weakness, brokenness, and sin. And why is this difficult? It is difficult because the wound in each one of us, caused by original sin, makes us tend to doubt God’s goodness and love. We tend to think in a worldly way, a way that says we must earn God’s love by being perfect, strong, and without sin; this way of thinking, though very altruistic, puts the pearl of great price at a distance almost un-reachable for us. We must understand that God’s love is not for us to earn but to receive; God freely gives us His love unconditionally. St. Paul told the Romans, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to
separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-39). We must remember these words from St. Paul; we should try to memorize them as we have memorized the “Our Father.” It is to trust that Jesus Christ is the one who makes us Holy and not my actions and deeds. It is to trust that He will make us into great saints, even if we do not see it happening, even if we struggle with the same sins day after day, even if we have to wait for the grace of holiness until the very end of our lives. As St. Thérèse of Lisieux said in one of her letters, “It is confidence and nothing but confidence that must lead us to Love.” The pearl of great price can be ours! We just need to realize, that the treasure buried in the field can be ours, if we cling on God’s mercy with trust. Peace and blessings,
Fr. Omar
Paz y bendiciones, Fr. Omar
FIRST READING 1 KGS 3:5, 7-12 The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Solomon answered: “O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?” The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him: “Because you have asked for this— not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding so that you may know what is right— I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you.”
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 119:57, 72, 76-77, 127-128, 129-130 R./ Lord, I love your commands. I have said, O LORD, that my part is to keep your words. The law of your mouth is to me more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces. Let your kindness comfort me according to your promise to your servants. Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.
R./ Lord, I love your commands. For I love your command more than gold, however fine. For in all your precepts I go forward; every false way I hate. Wonderful are your decrees; therefore I observe them. The revelation of your words sheds light, giving understanding to the simple. SECOND READING ROM 8:28-30 Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified ALLELUIA MT 11:25 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; for you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom. GOSPEL MT 13:44-46 Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

ALELUYA MT 11:25 R. Aleluya, aleluya.
