Todd SuchermanTodd Sucherman (born May 2, 1969) is an Americandrummer, who is best known for having been a memberof Styx since March 1995.Sucherman grew up in a musical family and followed inhis fathers footsteps by playing the drums. His father,Arnold J. Sucherman, was a doctor by day and a drummerby night, playing in the house band at the famed ChezParre' in Chicago. His mother, Jo (Seiwert) Sucherman,was an actress in the 1950s and 60s.Sucherman started playing at two years old. His rst pay-ing gig was with his brothers at the age of six under thename The Sucherman Brothers. The band consisted ofPaul on keyboards, Joel on bass, and Todd on drums.Sucherman attended Niles West High School, and thenthe Berklee College of Music from September 1987 toMay 1988. There he studied with Skip Hadden, Ian Fro-man, and Gary Chaee, a world-renowned educator.In 1988, Sucherman returned to Chicago and quickly es-tablished himself as a noted session musician. As anin-demand player for live and session work, Suchermanrecorded with Styx in March 1995 when they decided tore-record "Lady", now titled Lady '95, for their 1995Greatest Hits album, though he was uncredited. In Febru-ary 1996 when it came time for the Return to Paradisetour and drummer John Panozzo was unable to perform,Styx asked Sucherman to join them for the tour. AfterJohn Panozzos death on July 16, 1996, Sucherman be-came a full-time member, appearing on the 1997 live al-bum, Return to Paradise.In addition to Styx, he has played with such artists asBrian Wilson, Tommy Shaw, Peter Cetera, Brian Cul-bertson, The Falling Wallendas, Steve Cole, and SpinalTap, among others.In September 2008, Sucherman was a featured artist inthe prestigious Modern Drummer Festival. He also ap-peared on the cover of the October 2008 issue of Mod-ern Drummer magazine, and in 2009 Modern DrummerMagazine voted him number one Rock Drummer in theWorld.The gear he currently endorses are Pearl drums, percus-sion and hardware,Remo drumheads,Sabian cymbalsand Pro-Mark drumsticks.
