SHOWBUZZ WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 20124ROMEL M. LALATA, Editor

Eugene goes back to her rootsFrom the very start, my goal

was to bring more people to cometo the theater, especially thosewho have not yet experiencedwatching a play. I learned thatmany were repeaters andwatched again with a differentcompanion. “Bona” was a crowd-pleaser. It was relatable, modernand had many surprises. It wasabout a fan played by me whofell for a young wanna-be starportrayed by one of our finestyoung actors, Edgar Allan Guz-man, who’s such a natural. It wasa roller-coaster ride of emotions, and hopefully after havingwatched it, you could bring homesomething to think about.

What’s something new thatyou’ve learned from the“Bona” experience?

The most important lessonI’ve learned from the play, and

because I have played Bona, isto understand how importantour supporters, friends and fansare in the business. They arethe life and blood of this indus-try. We cater to them and weshould always be thankful tothem. As a celebrity, I want mysupporters to be inspired bywhat I do. Likewise, I want tobe inspired, too, by the peo-ple I admire. Needless tosay, I’m also a fan.

Will there be a repeatsince there’s publicclamor for it?

It’s been running forsix weekends alreadysince July. In MetroManila, no more repeats. But I am open to bringing“Bona” out of town or evenout of the country so ourkababayan can enjoy it, too.

By Dolly Anne Carvajal

E UGENE “Uge” Domingo was ecstatic that herplay “Bona” was extended (last weekend). Itcame as no surprise to Uge’s legions of fans be-

cause, as expected, she never failed to deliver.I’m pretty sure there would

be a repeat. It’s quite a feat con-sidering that Pinoys are moredrawn to the movies than totheater. Even if Uge hasachieved commercial success onthe big screen, she took timeout to go back to her roots. Nowonder the theater world lovesher in return. As she pays it for-ward, Uge hasn’t forgotten tolook back.

What did Nora Aunor, theoriginal Bona, say to you aftershe watched your portrayal?

Ms Nora watched twice. Shesaid she even enjoyed it more the

second time. I wanted her to havefun and to like it—and she did!Stars like her have been entertain-ing the country for so manydecades, it’s but right for her tobe entertained this time. I amglad to have had that opportunityon the PETA stage via “Bona” inthe contemporary setting. Thewhole experience was surrealwith Ms Nora in the audience. Mywhole theatrical experience thistime was amazing and unforget-table. It would be a dream-come-true to do a comedy film with her.

What do you think was thesecret to “Bona’s” success?

UAAP matindi salpukanNi Jasmine W. Payo

MAGKAIBA angsalpukan noong2006 at ngayon.

“This team is dif-ferent from 2006,”sabi ni University ofSanto Tomas coachPido Jarencio. “2006was more of destiny,

2012 is more ofpreparation. We’re amature team. We’rewell prepared and thegame plan is there.”

“We feel that thismight be the hardestchampionship towin,” sabi ni Trillo.“In the preseason, coach Norman singledout UST as the teamto beat. From thestart we knew UST

will be the team we’llsee in the end. Fromthe start, we’ve res-pected UST as a con-tender.”

“We just want theofficiating to be fairand let the playersdecide the game,” wi-

ka ni Jarencio ka-hapon sa PSA Forumsa Shakey’s Malate.

“I agree with whatcoach Pido said, letthe players decide thegame,” ani Trillo. “Asmuch as possible, wewant the refs to call itconsistently.”
