“Maybe if the level dips be-low 160 meters. But I think itwould take two months beforedomestic consumption is affect-ed,” ani Hydrologist Edgar de laCruz.
“It would take 1,300 millime-ters of rain. Maybe that could beattained if it rains every day forone month, contributing 50 mil-limeters daily to the dam,” aniDe La Cruz, na nagsabing angnormal na 210 metro. JIA

“Luis is open-minded, but thethought of him see-ing those scenesmakes me uncom-fortable,” sabi ng ak-tres.
Sabi ni Angel: “Hedidn’t want a big
party. He meant tohost a simple dinnerwith family andfriends. I said I’dplan it and hire aband. He said yes, thinking we’d havean acoustic group. He was so happy tosee Side A, he cried!I asked the band toplay Tuloy Pa Rin,the first song thatLuis’ own high-schoolband played. It ismemorable to him.”
“My supportersa n d s p o n s o r sbrought food. Somefriends turned up,”dagdag pa niya. “I’mthankfu l to thosewho sent f lowers,gifts and greetings.”
“There are funnycomments, too, mostly from maleviewers pleadingwith their girlfriendsor wives not to hatethem for what Jeri-cho’s character, Adri-an, did to Monica,my character.”
“We arenot here to judgepeople or label them‘mistresses,’ ‘cheat-ing husbands’ or ‘bit-ter wives.’ We’re justpresenting some-thing that really hap-pens.”
Ayon kay Angel, tinanggap niya angproyekto dahil mara-mi siyang kaibiganna dumadaan sakaranasan ni Moni-ca. “We’ve seen a lotof movies about themistress. Why notshow somethingfrom the point ofview of the suffering
wife?”What would
make you give upyour partner in reallife?
Cheating is a bigdeal to me. No twopeople would be tru-ly happy if one ofthem has caused theother pain.
Why does a per-son cheat?
A man cheatswhen his ego is hurt.A Filipino husband isso used to beingspoiled by his wife;it’s important to him, from time to time, tofeel needed. If thewife doesn’t see that,he looks for some-one else who will.
Are there scenesthat are similar toyour personal expe-riences in past rela-tionships?
There’s this scenewhere Monica in-spects Adrian’sphone and discoversthat the inbox andcall log are empty. Ican relate to that. Iguess the show alsoserves as a wake-upcall to guys—Ibahinn’yo naman ang stylen’yo. Buking na e!

From king to queen
decide to portraysuch an offbeat role?
The musical and, after reading thescript, the role itself. Many of the songs arefrom my era and havebeen on the sound-track of our lives. Agay character has al-ways been in mybucket list just likethe lead in La Cageaux Folles earlier on.
The life of a dragqueen has always fas-cinated me because Ibelieve that lip synch-ing and all that is anart form in itself. I feltthat I would be ableto sink my teeth intothe role, just like whatI did in Miss Saigon
and (as the King) inThe King and I.
What messagedoes Priscilla wantto impart?
Acceptance and re-spect, more than any-thing else. That we allhave a place in thisworld. Also, love, asthe saying goes, willkeep us together. Likein the case of Tick’sson Benjie, who ac-cepted his drag artist-father wholeheartedly.
What are yourdo’s and don’t’s be-fore a show?
For Priscilla, I havegone on an extremelystrict, almost no-salt,no-sugar and only
good-fat diet. I haveto look trim onstage. As Tick/Mitzi, I havesome important songsthat require what Icall “proper singingtone,” so I can’t takein cold drinks duringthe run. In “MissSaigon,” the Engineerhas a “character”voice … I could reallyafford to party rightafter.
Likewise doing theKing in The King and Iwas not so tough be-cause, there washardly any singing forme in that play.
Among all thetimeless hits inPriscilla, which oneis closest to yourheart?
You Were Alwayson My Mind. The songholds a lot of mean-ing to me and touchesme in a most personalway.
Against their will,Tick and his son wereseparated for a longtime. I am afraid thatI may not be as gooda family member or afriend as I haven’t al-ways been physicallypresent. But deep inmy heart, I love eachand everyone ofthem. And I think ofthem always.
By Dolly Anne Carvajal
I WAS deeply touched when mydear friend, Leo Tavarro Valdezpersonally invited me to the open-
ing night of his latest spectacular mu-sical, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, held at Resorts World Manila’s New-port Performing Arts Theater last Fri-day. (The show will run until July 4.)
Amid his frenziedschedule and the hus-tle-and-bustle ofpreparing for theshow, he took time tocall me up.
That’s the kind offriend he is. It’s hardto say if he’s greater asan artist or as a friendbecause he is extraor-dinary in being both.
I immensely en-joyed the musical, from start to finish.
The glitzy cos-tumes and timelessdisco hits make theshow even more en-gaging.
(For tickets, visitrwmanila.com or call9088833.)
Leo’s portrayal ofTick/Mitzi is too fabfor words. Red Con-cepcion, Jon Santos,Menchu Laucheng-co-Yulo and the restof the cast were abso-lutely divine as well.
Priscilla is a cele-bration of one’s truecolors. It is not merefrivolity, but a mean-ingful story with a vi-brant, beating heartat its core.
To cap my wonder-ful Priscilla experi-ence, I bonded withLeo at the after party.Upon seeing me, hehugged me so tight, which made me im-bibe all his good vibes. It made me releasemy inner Priscilla aswe danced the swing.
Kudos, Leo darling, for tirelessly sharingyour many gifts on-and off-stage. WithPriscilla, you’ve addedanother feather to
your cap, with match-ing feather boa, thatmakes you all themore fierce!
Here’s my tête-à-tête with Leo:
What’s tougher toportray, The Engi-neer in Miss Saigonor Tick/Mitzi inPriscilla?
The Engineer isstill tougher. Simplybecause he has twodifferent facets to hischaracter. He is darkand Machiavellian, but he can also becaring. Tick is thegood guy-next-doorwho excels as a fe-male impersonator, but he happens to bemarried and has ason. The thought offinally meeting hisson after all theseyears started his anx-ious journey acrossthe Australian out-back with his twobest friends.
