Today's Book Hook...No Talking by Andrew Clements is a great book set in fifth grade where the students have challenged each other to a contest...boys versus girls.

The rules of the contest are simple but can be very hard to follow. Students may talk at school only when an adult asks them a question, but then they can only answer using three words at a time.

Students can not speak at home, on the playground, or in the lunchroom. The students keep track of their words and use the honor system to report them.

When the principal demands that the contest must end, the students join together to silently face a new opponent in the competition. What will happen? Read and find out!

How do we show respect when using school computers?

Today’s Book Hook

When Nick learns some interesting information about how words are created, suddenly he's got the inspiration for his best plan ever...the frindle. Who

says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a

frindle?

Heroes like Davy Crockett, giants like Paul Bunyan, and gentle souls like Johnny Appleseed are among the nine "tall" heroes featured in this exuberant collection of traditional American folk tales.

If you love adventure and to laugh at the same time, read American Tall Tales by Mary Pope Osborne!

Tall Tales…

• Sometimes based on a real person

• There is a larger-than-life, superhuman main character with a specific job to do.

• Take place in a certain region of the U.S. or another country.

• Tall tales have exaggerations in them.
