Complete the handout given about yourself and you life. This will help you as we continue to the writing process.
We will use this handout in the next step of the brainstorming process.

On your handout, make a list of all the people, places, things, or ideas that matter to you. You do not need to organize this list. Just write down anything you can think of to add.

Write a personal essay to your peers to share how you define your American identity. Choose one person, place, thing, or idea to describe or tell the story of in order to provide an example of an American cultural value that helps create your American identity.
Writing Prompt
Now, next to each one, jot down how it relates to your American identity. You will have to think about what we, as an American culture, value.

use for your essay? How does he/she/it relate to your American identity?
